I just got over my Anarchy Online addiction and now this comes along...

@ Blobzie

Have you managed to play online with that demo, or is it not possible? I tried a few options, changed a few settings, but had no luck. It would be nice if a few of us could get together for a gentle fragging.

Bummer that it's not the full version.

I *will* pick it up at some point though :-)

Anyway, why would you want Quake III full version, if you can download EnemyTerritory for Linux and Windows for free?

It is based on Return To Castle Wolfenstein, the same engine as in QIII, but has IMHO much better playability and fun.

Why should I download the demo-version of a Windows-game
when what I actually want is *the source-code* ? :-)

@ APair

Thanks for the info...I downloaded Enemy Territory and have been having a very nice time with it, especially the TCE game (Specops vs terrorists). I get popped often though...those dudes are hardcore. I highly recommend it.

I haven't really played it only seen it runing long time ago. So how good is it compared to Quake II? What's better?

@ Hotrod

I can only comment on the comparison between Blobzie's Quake demo and the Enemy Territory that I downloaded (playing the TCE scenario).
I find ET to be far better in terms of graphics and it appeals to me more because the weapons are realistically done. I enjoyed it more (I couldn't get online with the Q3 demo, maybe it isn't allowed).
So for free online playing, with excellent graphics and sound and realistic weapons I give ET a big thumbs-up. The only thing I didn't like was downloading individual maps. They are on different servers and you find that some take quite long. I don't recommend it to anyone who hasn't got a fast connection (unless you got a lot of coffee to drink). I was downloading the TCE scenario at 230k/s and I waited quite long.

Hum,
Enemy Territory is a bit too much like medal of honour...
HEHE, if you like realism perhaps you could consider doom 3?
(Which incidentally I’m still stuck at, in delta labs 4 with the two monsters coming out of the teleporter)

Quake still kicks a$$ as far as speed goes, imho
(and online it comes alive...not the demo version though)

Not the TCE scenario, baby shoes. You should try that, it is like a whole different game (even though it is in test version currently)
