Amiga / ROM
« on: May 09, 2005, 08:05:48 AM »
Im a little bit confuset with the amiga kickstart roms.
what kickstart fits to what amiga are they all same?
is there a list somewhere like

example:
A20000 : 1.3 2 3 3.1
and is for example A3000 3.1 same as the one in A2000 ?
can these be used from one machine to other?

Maybe the list what i look for should be more like this:

3.1 : A500, A2000 .....
3.1 : A3000

something like that....
TIA

There are different roms for every amiga model.. so 3.1 roms for the A2000 won't fit in the A3000 and vice versa just like A1200 roms won't fit/work in the A4000..

Yep, Rayt is right.  A4000, A1200 and (I think) A3000 all use 32bit Roms.  500/600/2000/2500 etc all use 16bit Roms.  So the A4000 ones won't fit in the A1200 etc.  Also, there are physical differences, such as some use 2 x 256 roms, whereas others use 1 x 512.

Here's a basic rundown.
A1000 - 1.0, 1.1, 1.2 (not sure on 1.2)
A500 -   1.2, 1.3, 2.04 in 500+
A2000 - 1.2, 1.3, 2.04
A600 -   2.04
A3000 - 2.04, 3.0
A1200 - 3.0, 3.1
A4000 - 3.0, 3.1
CDTV - Modified 1.3
CD32 - Modified 3.1

These were the kickstarts that were shipped with these models.  Newer versions of the kickstart were released for models that didn't ship with them, however.

Apache2k : but a kickstart 3.1 rom in an A500 or A2000 is definitely the way to go !! I had a one on my old A500+ with 68020i and it was rated as faster than the stock A1200 !! Also, when you are used to OS1.3 or even OS2.1, when you see OS3.1 running on your A500 it really gives a great feeling that your computer suddenly became a big thing

Isnt it so that 3.1 rom can handle OS 3 ,3.1, 3.5 and 3.9
Maybe u are mixing them.

@Frontiie

It's Workbench 3.9 SetPatch "AmigaOS ROM Updates". Kickstart really is 3.1.

Why won't A4000 ROM3.1 work in A1200 if they both are 32bit?

which one use 256Kx16/512Kx8?

which can be replaced by 27c400?

It's got nothing to do with the machine being 16 or 32 bit, but the differences of the machines.. eg. IDE control registers at different addresses etc, small differences in the autoconfig code etc.

The a1200,3000 and 4000 have two 256x16 chips, the a500/600/2000 has one 512x8.
