phase 5 blizzard PPC card alive ?
« on: May 05, 2005, 10:44:55 AM »
Hello,
I have a bppc card I bought some time ago from ebay. I would like to check if it works or not. I plug the card, and I can see the extra ram on it in the workbench. Does it mean that it's ok ?
I'm too lazy to install the drivers and run something on it, cause I want to build a good cooling system and fix the power issues before I actually run something on the ppc. Now I'm trying in a desktop amiga.

If you see the installed RAM then the 68k and RAM slots are working. You could install WhichAmiga or a Benchmarktool for checking PPC.

Hello!

Well, th BlizzardPPC drivers resides inside its ROM. Then, you should
not need to install anything on your harddrive.

You could just pick some PowerUP software on aminet or somewhere else.
However, you might need to update the ROM. As far as I remenber, some
old one will not be able to run recent soft.

About, the original Commodore PSU *should* be enough. But, the Escom
one is out for this job.

Bye

The original PSU no matter if C= or Escom are really underpowered for BPPC. But for testing it *could* be enough.

I'm using a brick a 500 psu, 29w.

but still, the fan behind ppc barely begins to spin. I guess it doesn't get enough power, or the fan is dead. Can I replace that fan ? And the stupid black casing like thingie on the ppc , is there a way to remove it so I can cool the cpu directly ?

You can replace it, it's dead. About the "black thing", it's usually fine with that, just cool the 68k, that makes the PPC overheat usually.
