get amiga1200 online?
« on: March 08, 2003, 01:25:06 AM »
hey..just got my hands on an old amiga1200 with Workbench3.0. The question is..can I get it online?? I guess it should go with an old classic null modem cable but can anyone help me out? I´m looking for some hints and url´s to howto´s.

Got 1 linux computer, 2 sun solaris and 1 win2000 computer online here in a network and it would kick as if I could get the amiga to join the party :)

I moved this to a more appropriate forum.

IIRC you can set up a direct null modem connection between a WindowsPC and Amiga if you are running Miami on the Amiga and a proxy server on the Windows PC. I half heartedly tried this once back in Windows98/OS3.5days and didnt succeed.
Someone has to state the obvious and that someone is me!

The method I use is to get a PCMCIA network card for the A1200, network that and my PC (running win2k pro) together, then use Internet Connection Sharing on my PC to talk to the Internet through modem.

Yes... get your Amiga 1200 on-line! You can do it and its very easy too...

You have lots of possibilities. The simplest thing is to buy a PCMCIA network card. These are cheaper than Zorro network cards, but then again a bit more expensive than PCI network cards. So you fit right in between.

The other thing you could do is to build your Amiga 1200 into tower version with MediatorPCI1200SX from www.elbox.com/buy.elbox.com and then start to build your Amiga up with Voodoo, 100mbit network cards and so on, but this is a more expensive effort, but in the end you end up with great expansion possibilities for other PCI cards and SharkPPC :).

I hope this helps including all of the other good helping people in this thread.
