Someone please teach me about PicassoIV settings?
« on: March 07, 2003, 01:31:57 PM »
Hi All,

I have got a PicassoIV in my A4000T. I have a few questions. When I
first install p96, I set the screen refresh as 64hz (the highest
option available). Once its installed I go into P96Mode and change the
screens to a fast Mhz speed. For example, I have my 1024x768 16bit
screen running at approx. 95mhz...

Now here is my question, does this make any difference> Under syspeed,
it doesn't show much of a difference as to when I had the PicassoIV
running in the default screenmodes.

Can someone please explain the settings to me? Does someone have a
settings file that I could use?

If anyone out there has overclocked the PicassoIV and got good results
please let me know....

I am running an A4000T, Cyberstorm MKIII 060 66mhz, 128mb, 9gig
SCSI... I need more gfx speed... Quake is very jerky and slow in
640x480... I really think my system should be pushing better then
that! Can someone help me in making my picassoIV work at optimal
speed??

Hello,  I am using an A4000T with a PicassoIV as well.  I'm using CyberGraphX 4 instead of P96.  Quake will remain somewhat slow with an '060 and a Zorro graphics card.  If you want an improvement, I would suggest either getting a
PPC cpu card, or a more powerful graphics card.
You could get a CybervisionPPC, or purchase
a PCI expansion and pick a compatible card.  I
have not gone with either of these upgrade paths
yet, and suggest you take it a bit slow.

I think you're confusing adaptor refresh rate with game speed. Using a higher refresh rate will give you a nicer image, but won't affect Quake in the slightest. As the Picasso doesn't have any 3D acceleration, Quake is running in software mode, which is really slow on a 68060. On the 68060 50Mhz, in order to complete ClickBOOM quake I used 2x2 pixel mode, and a small window, in 320x200.

Asking a 68060 to do Quake at 640x480, without the help of a CVPPC or Voodoo 3 is just too much.
