Amiga Word Processor Recommendation Wanted
« on: March 07, 2003, 01:07:09 PM »
I've been using ProWrite v3.3.2 in the past for word processing because it suited my needs just fine.  Last night I tried to use it.  However, it crashes my whole machine and send it into an infinite reboot loop.  I can't figure that out.  Anyhow, I'm looking for recommendations on an "up-to-date" word processor that will work with my CyberVisionPPC gfx card??

You have basicly three choices, Wordworth, FinalWriter or AmigaWriter.

I prefer FinalWriter and think it's a great word processor that keeps up very well compared to Word.

I downloaded and tried the v2.2 demo of AmigaWriter, but was not impressed.  One problem I had was I couldn't get anything to paste into a document from the clipboard.

Is there a demo of FinalWriter available?  If so, where?

The really sad part is that FinalWriter will not be easy to get hold of in any legal way :(

Too bad since it is the best Word Processor for the Amiga IMHO

Why is that?  (I know I can get AmigaWriter, but I don't want it.)  How about WordWorth, is that still available/decent?

Some people like WordWorth a lot, so I guess it is pretty good. I guess there are one wordworth camp and one FinalWriter camp. And I belong to the FinalWriter camp  :-)

Word Worth 7 is available from SoftHut

Im a Wordworth man myself. I use it for all my wordprocessing needs, and have done for the past 5 years :-) before that I used penpal. Anyway if I were you I would get yourself onto AmiBench and place a wanted for either version 6 or 7 of Wordworth, I used to have 6 and it was great, 7 is slightly better, though I am still hunting for a version of 7 that came on one of those small CD's, any of you lot got one? mine came on a full CD.

Yeah, just saw that by wandering over to SoftHut's site.  I'm looking for a demo so I can try it out first.

How about FinalWriter?  Can't get that anywhere?

I'm sorry I don't know of any demo versions of neither Word Worth nor FinalWriter  :-(

I haven't seen any shops actually selling FinalWriter 97 (the latest verion) anymore.

On one of my Amiga Format CDs I have a pretty good demo of Wordworth 7. I guess it was never spread over Internet; just ask and I will send it to you.

@ PPCRulez, Bummer!

I just went ahead and placed my "Wanted" ad on Amibench.  Thanks for the suggestion, Ryu.

At Uni, I used to use the MacOS version Word 6 under Shapeshifter (when I had to be compatible with Word on the Uni machines). It was perfectly useable, but I preferred Wordworth ;-)

If not a word processor, its dtp, thats desktop publishing program and its very, very good. Final Writer got dtp tools too and such. I used Final Writer for Amitopia some time even.

Now Amitopia uses Pagestream v4.1. Its really nice, but then price stops you! Its really expensive. So I recommend to either go for Final Writer or AmigaWriter.

I liked Wordworth, but had terrible trouble printing, so I tried Kindwords (like an early version of Wordworth by the same people) and it worked well, printing all my intellifonts on a non-text inkjet printer.
