Amiga One Motherboards????
« on: April 20, 2005, 03:56:45 AM »
Are there any places that sell the Amige One motherbaords that are current? I keep checking SoftHut and Mr Hardware, but their boards are always showing up on the website as either, out of stock, or simply G4 - 800Mhz, etc. This hasn't changed since last year. I'm sure by now, with the release of Apple's G5 machines, that there are newwer more powerfull CPU's and configurations. Also, can you use most standard out of the box items with the Amiga Motherboard; ex; CD-Roms, DVD-Roms, Ram, etc. Thanks all.

RAM will get you into trouble with the AmigaOne because there is a thin compatability list there... and I don't know of any AmigaOnes motherboards for sale in the US.

I got my MicroA1-C from Software Hut when they still had them but I don't think they have any more...

BTW my MicroA1C came as an installed and preconfigured system with a DVD-ROM reader/CD-ROM burner.  I can verify it can read DVDs (although coming up with a player program will require MPlayer which is still in the testing stages) and burning CDs will require either FryingPan or BurnIt.

Also the newest configuration available is just a 1.4 GHz G4 card that costs a lot and is available for AmigaOne and MicroA1-C but not MicroA1-I which isn't released yet and will have an 800 MHz G3 soldered to the motherboard.

G5 is incompatible with the Articia S chip and so will not be available for quite some time.  A likelier option for the future is that AmigaOS 4.1 may support multiprocessing making dual-core G4s a better and more cost-effective option.

Where did you see a 1.4 Ghz for sale? Also, who has the best track record for getting in what they say they'll get in? Thanks.

Best news I've heard in a while! If they're forced to
drop the Articia S in order to support the G5, I'll have to
buy one. There's hope!

I have a G4 1000 on my A1. "Soon" Eyetech should release a 1,3Ghz module upgrade afaik.
On www.amigaworld.net on the right you have a list of all official AmigaOne dealers.

>Drop Articia S

Hi
I heard that Eyetech plan to use Articia I chipsets for G5.
Is this true?
Does Articia I chipset also contain flaws / bugs, similar to Articia S?

What about Genesi Pegasos III machines with G5?

There is a project called AmigaFive G5 or something.
What happen to this project?

So are the rumours, but Eyetech didn't even confirm the rumours about their Articia P based AmigaOne-XC..

No one knows, as neither the Articia P nor the Articia I were released yet. Maybe the Articia P will be released this year, but I doubt the Articia I will be finished any time soon..

From what I've read on amigaworld.net, the project was canceled before it even started because it was impossible to raise funds for a prototype board or something..

I wouldn't hold my breath for either... Why? No consiracy theories here, it's simple... The first time I saw the specs for the next chips in the Articia line was when I realised that the Pegasos 1 *prototypes* (those that were almost identical to the original Teron boards, with ZIF sockets) were using that chipset and that was in 2001 iirc... They are *hopelessly* late, even by Amiga terms...

I understand that AmigaFive project had been canceled. It was very ambitious, very expensive (would have very quickly gone WAY beyond the initial $6000 evaluation board purchase) and Momentum probably wanted more of the work to be done by the project members, rather than serve as a contract design house. The project lead claimed he was to refund all donations to the cause he had received.

If you google around searching for 8641 information, there was one web site I saw with discussion forum where someone hinted that the Pegasos3 may use that chip instead of the G5. I'd take that with a big grain of salt, as it wasn't anything to resemble an announcement or anything official, just some guy mentioning a rumor. As for when the Peg3 might be available in either configuration, who knows...

Everythign I've been able to learn abot the Atricia-I came from a Mai Logic press release from a couple years ago. And that ain't very much. When it is released, I'd imagine Eyetech will license Mai's reference design, perhaps make some alterations here and there, and rebrand it as the G5 AmigaOne.
