New links in the menu
« on: April 15, 2005, 10:26:33 AM »
Hi guys,

I was thinking about ways to improve Amiga.org and thought about writing up several things including a history of the Amiga and a place to download new files (if there still are any new files other than music mods).  Then it dawned on me that doing either would be a slap in the face of a few great guys who've already done such sites.

As such, if you haven't noticed, I've added two new links to the "other places" menu to include linking to the Aminet and to emugaming.com's great history of the Amiga.  Hope they don't object.  :)

If there are other ideas that I've forgotten, lemme know.  I really wish there was some way we could put the past behind us and move forward.  Short of linking to sites which stupidly choose to make this a competition, I'm open to any ideas you guys might have.

Wayne

{
edit: please understand that while I'd love to link to every Amiga site on the Web, that's not what the left menu is for.  If you're looking for that type stuff, go to the links section (above).

As such, I will restrict entries to only long-established efforts that are well done, serve a distinct purpose, and deserve the support
}

Well although its currently down the AmiNet link should ideally point to http://main.aminet.net since thats the new infrastructure that will be rolled out to all mirrors in due course.

Thanks Darren,

When that site's up, remind me and I'll change the link accordingly.

Speaking of histories, I'd suggest the Amiga Wiki.

Is there anywhere to download great workbench backdrops? 8/16 colour upto 24bit in standard ecs/aga sizes plus rtg?

I have various Amiga systems, would like to see a page with maybe themes to download, backdrops with icon sets for different systems capable of hosting them etc

Just a thought because some wonderful workbench screenshots are already on Amiga.org with some explanation on which icons, menu's and docks used, but not all.

Az

P.S I always thought this should have been part of the official Amiga.com webpage, a workbench theme area with fantastic images to show exactly what the Amiga could look like other than standard topaz font with grey/blue.
Completely useless? I can always be used as a bad example  :lol:

Slightly off-topic. I've just learned from reading the Amiga History page that Jay Miner passed away on my birthday. :-(

On a lighter note, the Amiga was 'born' on my birthday. :-D
