What you guys think, is there a hope for official RealAudio player port after os4 is released?

I don't really see a need for it, I dont use realplayer in linux, and never really used it under Windows either.

It's not a feature i'm going to miss  :-)

IMHO, both Real Audio and Real Video SUCKS.
It's slow, poor-quality, uses non-standard ports etc. Streaming MP3s give you much better quality and most people today have the bandwidth to enjoy this.

I must agree, it is a bag of b... buffer.  Even on my ADSL line streaming mpegs off a media server seems to be faster  :-o

Real audio is essential if you listen to radio stations on line in the UK.
All the BBC Radio websites use it.
Most English football teams have a "world" site now Eg

LCFC World
Forest World
Pompey World etc.

To listen to the media on those you need real player.

NME.Com uses Real

etc etc

Real is fine here with my cable modem and never had any problems with. Personally I like real more than windows media.

I thought the source had been released under the name helix anyway. IIRC its already been ported to linux.

yeah, 1 picture is worth 1000 words:) @ tcarls

anyway, realaudio might suck, but radiostations and as well as some online music stores are using it.
and i hope with os4 there will be amigaonly users who might want to use these features.

None whatsoever. Real demand huge royalties, and I can't see AInc or Hyperion ever paying them. You'll never see RealPlayer on Amiga. Not ever.

But it's a load of crap anyway. It's horribly slow, jammed with filthy spyware, and it's quality is awful. Most of the time if I'm offered a choice between streamed video and downloading an mpeg, 9 out of 10 times I go for the mpeg.

If you want to listen to net radio, I recommend shoutcast. Too bad the Amiga doesn't have any decent shoutcast players, but rumour has it that a new and wonderful streamed mp3 player is being developed for the Amiga in some little-known IRC channel...

It's not. Shoutcast is better by far. Real audio radio channels are usually overcommercialised trash.

Why? Frogger supports the realplayer filetypes and
codecs, including realaudio. Only a script to stream
or, even better, internal streaming support is needed.

RealNetworks software sucks badly and i would not recommend it but if you have to use RealAudio for whatever reason download V8 basic or lower, never ever use the higher versions.

I really hope Real doesn't port RealPlayer to OS4, it's the most misbehaving piece of media software I've ever come across!

Yeesh.  Load RealOne on your PC, and watch the firewall activity.  Spyware galore.  If Real is *never* ported, I'd be delighted.  Almost worse than WMP 9 and the DRM, as far as I'm concerned.  :-x
