PAK 68/3 accelerator card
« on: March 24, 2005, 03:52:01 PM »
Anybody got the schematics for that accelerator card?
I have salvaged a 68030/33 Mhz and a 68882 from a Appolo workstation mainboard and would be cool to build that accelerator for my unupgraded A500  :-?

It's a german-designed Prozzesor Accelerator Karte - it is said to work with all 68000-based computers :pissed:
A500, KS 1.3, 1 Mb RAM
A1200, KS 3.0, 2 Mb Chip+8 Mb Fast RAM, 1 Gb CF
Lots of 8-bit computers (:-D me thinks I\'m the only Romanian that owns 3 Acorn BBC\'s - 2 Model B\'s and a Master)
Athlon X2 4200+, 2x1 Gb DDR II, 250+750Gb Seagate Barracuda SATA ...

Here is some info on it:

No manuals or anything though. Just plug it in and see what happens...

The PAK was designed as a project for heise's c't-magizine in the early 90ties.

c't-projects

It might still be possible to order a copy of that article and preprogrammed GALs.
1. Make an announcment.
2. Wait a while.
3. Check if it can actually be done.
4. Wait for someone else to do it.
5. Start working on it while giving out hillarious progress-reports.
6. Deny that you have ever announced it
7. Blame someone else

On this page:
C'T-Projekte
They have a file called pak68.sit that you can download. You'll need stuffit to use the file but I think it's what you want.

The description is: Mac: Paket fuer PAK68/3 Beschleuniger, c't 11/93

Rough translation by WorldLingo:
Mac: Package for PAK68/3 accelerator, c't 11/93

It looks like it's just software though...
SunBlade 1000 2x1200mhz UltraSparc III+, 8GB RAM, XVR1000, 73GB and 300GB FC drives, DVD, SunPCi IIIpro - 1GB RAM (yes it does work when I set the clock back to 2009), Solaris 10.

Ultra60 2x450MHz UltraSPARC II, 2GB RAM, 9GB U160 and 36GB U320 drives, CDROM

A1200T, 603e-240mhz/040-50mhz SCSI, 256mb, MediatorSX, Voodoo3-3000, Soundblaster 128, 10/100 Ethernet, other stuff OS3.9

Has anyone confirmed that a PAK will work in an Amiga? You can order a set of preprogrammed GAL's, but they are system specific, either MAC or Atari ST. Which of the two would work?

The other interesting one would be the converter for placing an 030 in an 020 socket.... How about upgrading your 020 cards guys?

Man, thats so long......

Yes I remember reading the articles back in 92/93, and yes there was an Amiga version.

It probraly needed a special set of GALs, which seem to be out of stock....

I also remember it only having 256 or 512k of static RAM, just enough to put the Kickstart into, so you shouldn't expect a performance boost anything close to what a 030 with RAM would give. Even a lousy 020 will outperform you.

Maybe try this (targeted at A1000-Phönix)

Thanx. I'll see what I can do with the web address you provided.

PS: I checked it. I think it might work with a A500 too.
I'll browse more over the schematics the next days, to be certain.  :pint: here's to you!

http://www.atari-workshop.co.uk/products/accelerators.htm

maybe the amiga community should organise a project similar to these, use paypal to donate research funds to get an accelerator prototype built.

Take a poll for what people want/need/wish ie, 030/882/50mhz, 32bit ram, ide on board etc? so we can get OS3.9 running :-)

Az
Completely useless? I can always be used as a bad example
