I saw this on the news this morning.  How utterly tragic that young lives should be so needlessly wasted.

In the absence of KennyR, I'll have to say it.

IF PEOPLE DIDN'T HAVE ACCESS TO GUNS, THEN THIS COULDN'T HAVE HAPPENED!

No,  I dont think that is a true statement.
Guns make it easier, I will grant that fact.
It could have as easily been him mowing down people with a car, arsen, a bomb, or a host of other things.

But, desire and will are the prime motivators here.

Dont get me wrong, it is sad.

I completely agree that this is a tragedy and the loss of life is horrible.  Pending the facts of the case, I will not comment with regards to the access to guns issue but my beliefs on gun ownership are well known on this website...

Here we go again (maybe)...

I dunno about that. For myself I'm happy to say "if you dont have easy access to guns, it is that much harder to shoot somebody" and leave it at that.

Fun fact: The components required to build a Daisy cutter are freely availble for anyone to buy. That doesn't mean that people blow up cities for fun.
Thing is that if that kid hadn't had guns availible, then he would have used something else.

More energy should be put on the fact that kids are killing each other, not on discussing the way they're doing it.
That's kinda like prohibiting fourteen year-old girls from having sex instead of explaining the dangers of jumping into the sack with the first chav availible.

mdma were you raised in a vacuum? Teenage boys have been building homemade guns for a hundred years. So you better close all the hardware stores in the UK, because you can legally buy every piece needed to build one, and also the necessary tools, all under the same roof.
If you\\\'re still voting Democrat, you\\\'re stuck on stupid!

Cheers :pint:

It's an issue at the base societal level, can't work from the top down (by legislating gun control).

I'm personally in favour of gun control.  Chuck 'em all in the melting pot and be done with them.  Period.

However as so many people point out it's not necessarily the guns that kill people - it's people themselves.

What drives a fourteen year old to go to school and execute eight people before turning the gun on himself?  Surely we should be looking at what it is in our society that drives people commit mass murder.  It's happened it places like Dunblaine, Hungerford (in the UK) etc so it's not necessarily a phenomena experienced in nations where gun control is limited.

At the end of the day, nine lives have been lost in an act so senseless it defies explaination.

Oh, don't get me wrong. I am most certainly pro-gun control, but blaming this on the guns is rediculous.
