Open Office 2.0
« on: March 19, 2005, 02:10:39 AM »
WOW!
It's actually pretty nice.

I had to download it for my Windows PC at work, sometimes we buy our software and sometimes not, I did not feel to go about that so I just said no to the CD-R and choose to download Open Office.

I upgraded on my PC at home also, the linux version is just as good. Highly recomended.

Unfortunately, there is no version for Amiga OS.

Might need to give it another try then. Last time I tried it, it gave a whole new dimension to the word 'bloat' in my vocabulary.

Well, the download is pretty big 97MB.
But the linux version is individual rpms that you can pick anc choose, also it loads about twice as fast as 1.1whatever.

Yes, this is a pretty amazing suite of software.

In fact, I just bought a notebook that had MS Office Trial version on it. I promptly uninstalled it and replaced it with OpenOffice.org.

I would LOVE to see an Amiga port someday...

There's a port in the works for AOS 4 on the AmigaDev website (Although they're doing all of their discussions on a mailing list from somebody elses website.)

I've been using OpenOffice since 1.0.something, and while it can be a bit slow to start up, I've had no problems with document compatibility except for the odd bizarre winmail.dat issue.

I think it's a shame that OO 2.0 has those gradient effects in the toolbars, just a pointless bell/whistle IMO.  There's a ticket you can vote on to get an option to switch it off:
