Mroocheck; a piece of junk or just fussy?

Hi Peeps, I have a Mroocheck mouse adapter and I was wondering if somebody would be so kind as to confirm the following.

1. I'm right in thinking it goes in the Amigas usual mouse port aren't I?

2. No software is needed for normal opperation, drivers etc only needed for further button support ans wheel scrooling?

3. Is it fussy over mice?

The problem is I haven't been able to get the dam thing to work at all. I've tried it with an old logitech ps2 mouse, an el cheapo ps2 3 button mouse and a tsunami optical wheel mouse and none of them have worked at all. I expect the optical one will not work as it will not have the required voltages etc that it needs, am I correct?

This is annoying, any help would be greatly appreciated.

I had one of those AGES ago! it does indeed need a driver if im correct but you may be right in it only beeing for wheel scrolling etc! i only tried it with a cheap mouse i got from a PC store years ago and it worked fine for me.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but..

1. Yes, it goes in the usual mouse port.

2. That's right, no software necessary for normal operation.

3. It's particular about mice, since it is meant for serial mice only. So if your mouse is PS2 only, it will not work.

Combo mice (which support both PS2 and serial mode, and autodetect which to use) should work ok. I used to have a mouse like this, it had both a PS2 connector and a serial connector. Never tried it with the Mroocheck though.

I used to have a Mroocheck; it worked OK with serial mice, but I did not get it to work with a PS2-only mouse even though I had an adapter.

its a piece of crap! you should get the newer ps2 adapters or just get clock port usb adapter...

The first mouse I used was a mouse that came originally with a ps2 connector and had one of those ps2->serial adapters with it.

Does anybody know which mice autodetect wether or not they are serial/ps2?

I've used ps2 mice with ps2->serial adapters loads of times with pcs, so how is it different with this? if the mouse finally has a serial connector and it works on a serail port on the pc why does it not work on the mroocheck?

Anyone know a mouse model that I can use with the mroocheck that has a ps2 connector?

yeah I read them, I think I'm going to round up a few different mice before I leave work tomorrow and bring them home to see if I can find a compatible one. Thats if I can find any, most not being used are absoloute {bleep}, except the ones on my desk.

That is what I originally thought, and I ended up banging my head against a wall for a long time. I had a plain old PS2 mouse and a half dozen PS2 to serial adapters. None of them worked on the Amiga with Mroocheck, and none of them even worked on the Windows PC with that adapter connected. I thought the PS2 to serial adapter would do the trick and convert it, but it didn't.

The reason, I learned after some research, is that PS2 mice use a different protocol than serial mice, and a simple converter won't do the trick. You need a mouse that supports both protocols. I imagine that's what these PS2 to serial adapters were really designed for.

Most mice I've seen lately are either PS2 or USB. You'll be better off buying yourself a PS2 to Amiga adapter or going the USB route. I ended up getting a PS2 to Amiga adapter, and it works just fine now.

I was just thinking, even if I do get this working with a combo mouse whats the chance of the combo mouse working through a kvm?

Even if you make it work, keep in mind that the refresh rate of the Mroocheck is pathetic at best -- say goodbye to the smooth Amiga mouse you used to enjoy under AGA. Hello lethal eye strain!

I used one of these ( http://www.amiga-hardware.com/showhardware.cgi?HARDID=762 ) with my A3000... No drivers needed, unless you wanted to use third button and/or scroll wheel and such.. Worked like a charm, like any other Amiga mouse..

Couldn´t get it to work through my KVM, though.. It didn´t have mouse emulation, so that might be why it didn´t work, but I don´t know for sure..

Don't belive in powerfull of these ps2 -> serial adapters.
This is only a marketing trick.
I worked two years in a pc shop and i've seen many such adapters which did't work on pc's at all.
