Star Wars Episode III trailer

Just saw it on TV tonight and was pretty impressed.  I don't know how this thing is going to get PG rating or even a PG-13.  Very Dark and violent.:-o

Looks as if there may be hope for the last of the Star Wars flicks after all.

Anybody else seen it?  Any comments?

I agree, Lucas may have yet redeemed himself. I was utterly disappointed with Episodes I and II. Darth Maul was about the only person worth a sh!t and they killed him off almost immediately.

It won't be a PG, but it may still be a PG-13 (just).  George Lucas has said himself that it's not a film he would let his kids go and see.

I saw the first trailer a while back, and that set me in the mood for it :-D

Well, (the original episodes IV -> VI) are great for kids (in puberty), and I enjoyed 'em very much when I was a kid. But now I do not want to see a new Star Wars because I know I will find it boring as hell (but yeah, most ppl think the movies I love nowadays are as boring as hell :-))

I never saw Star Wars as a kid, my parents thought it was a waste of money. When I saw them later as a grown up, I was horrified with the bad acting quality, and the woodenness of the characters. Vader steals the show every time: he wears a cool suit, he has tons of character, and he is the Bad Guy. (And as any actor will tell you: playing the bad guy is easier than playing the good guy.) Luke 'Use The Forsh' Skywalker is a first class weenie who deserves to have more limbs chopped off.

Alec Guinness himself cringed with embarrassment when recalling the dialogue for Obi Wan, but shrewdly was the only actor to waive a fee in favour of a percentage share of profit.

He must have been minted...

Even so, the script in all the Star Wars films is appalling, the acting stilted and the storyline a little hackneyed....  But it worked and they remain some of my favourite films today once you see past the obvious flaws.

:lol: Don't feel bad, not everybody enjoys Star Wars and that's not a bad thing.

I've always thought that American Graffiti was a good Lucas flick and even THX 1138 was done very well.

As far as Star Wars goes, it was always supposed to be a "fairy tale" set in space by using well established archetypes.  For example the wise old wizard (Kenobi), the princess in peril (Princess Lea), the world weary hero (Han Solo), the classic villian (Darth Vader) and the wide eyed youth (Luke Skywalker).  It has a simple plot; Go rescue the princess and get the plans to the good guys so they can save the base.  It barrows themes and elements from such classics as the works of Homer (the poet/story teller not Homer Simpson) to the Wizard of Oz.  Other story tellers have done this too.

Lucas was smart though, he parlayed all of those elements into a clever little fantasy flick (with a dose of timing) and made an empire out of it.  I wish I could do half as well.

I believe Star Wars is supposed to be an enjoyable yarn and those who try and analyze it beyond that or read more into it than there is probably wont get it.

A guy on another board I frequent is a seriously major star wars fan.  He was telling people that they were traitors (or something anyway, "not true fans")for not thinking ep1 and 2, and this new trailer were good.

I keep telling myself I am *not* going to watch ep3, after seeing ep2 in the cinema and not being impressed, and steadily even less impressed with it over time.  But because I loved the trilogy when I was a kid, it keeps calling to me :-)  A problem with the latest three films is that the trailers look kickarse and the films turn out crap.

Actually, it gets a little worse. While sitting in the train I was reading through an article in a magazine about problems on the set of famous movies, including Star Wars IV. Apparently, 'Princess Leia' nurtured a stiff cocaine habit in RL, and was screwing Harrison Ford on just about every occasion. Lucas was suffering from terrible sunburn so he couldn't go out save in the most protective and ridiculous clothes which only served to reduce his already paper-thin authority to nothing. And more.

It explains a lot, doesn't it?

There's so much folklore/urban legend about the original Trilogy, take your pick from the following excerpts:

1) Carrie Fisher's protruding nipples were flattened with carpet tape.
2) Mark Hamill was undecided for Empire Strikes Back after having his face rebuilt after a massive car crash.
3) George Lucas was less than impressed with Dave Prowse (Darth Vader) taking time out to film a series of road safety adverts for British TV as the "Green Cross Code" man.
4) That Harrison Ford and Carrie Fisher had an affair.
5) Initial reviews were scathing.

Right, people like that need to get a life and probably need to move out of their parents basement.  The Star Wars movies are a good couple of hours of fantasy escapeism.  They are not something to base your life around.  That goes for Star Trek to.

For a good laugh ya'll should check out this site and see these shows/movies taken to their extreme in fanboyism. :-o
