Which pin on Gary for DKB MultiStart II
« on: March 10, 2005, 12:04:11 AM »
Greetings All,
Just got an A2K a with multistart 2 board installed?

Problem is that there is a wire that is dangling off of the Multistart II board. I think it goes to a pin on the Gary chip, but I'm not sure which one. I would appreciate it if someone could let me know whre it goes or where to find some docs on this.

Thank you,
AmigaEd

My manual says attach the clip to pin 41 of chip 5719 (Gary).  You'll find that pin by counting counterclockwise from pin 1 identified on the motherboard (nearest to the power supply connector and the 68000 cpu).

@hey Argus,
Thank you very much for the information. Pin 41 on the Gary Chip seems to make sense since that is the reset line.

Since you have a manual, I was wondering if you might be able to tell me about some of the jumper settings that are on the MultiStart II board. I also am not quite sure of how to operate it, but I am assuming that you change ROMS by using the "Ctrl" + "Amiga" + "Amiga" keys.

Thanks again for your help,

@AmigaEd

Sorry I just saw your post.  The MultistartII board is different than earlier versions; it's the one with a ribbon cable attached to the A2000/500/600 ROM socket and has a small pcb for the fitting of two ROMs.  To use the board, you should put the ROM you wish to boot from in the socket closest to the ribbon connector.  You switch ROMs by holding down Ctrl-Amiga-Amiga for a few seconds before releasing the keys.  There is a small three pin jumper on the top of the board.  Looking at the board, you set the jumper (i.e. short) the two left pins for use in the A600 and A2000 and on the right two pins for use in an Amiga 500.  Also make sure that the pcb holding the ROMs does not short with any of the motherboard chips (there should be a piece of cardboard or something to insulate it).  The manual also mentions that there should be no wires shorting pins on the ROM ICs themselves (you have to do such wire hacks if you use certain roms 2.0, 3.1 etc. in the original motherboard socket of certain A500 and A2000 m/b revisions).  Hope this helps.
