HELP! Cant get new broadband connection working...
« on: March 09, 2005, 09:25:38 PM »
Oh please, I hope some of you can help!

Spent the past two hours tearing hair out at the fact I cant get my miggy online with my new faaaaast broadband connection.

Right: I have a Netgear DG814 DSL Modem Internet Gateway with four port built in switch.  I have it connected to my miggy via a Norway ethernet adapter off of my AlgorPro.  So far so good.
Im running OS3.9, and everything else if fine its just configuring the software! I can set it up so I can configure the router so that bit is working but....

Now, how do I config ****** Miami or ****** Genesis to actually allow me to surf the web at this wonderful speed I know as Broadband (I know its great, Im using it on the PC right now! and thats plugged into the DG814 fine!)

Please help, then I can surf the net in bliss and at the same time as my sister so I dont have to use her PC, and I wont go prematurely bald as a result.

Waiting patiently,

Jason

:bump:
sorry didn't read your post right :-(

(btw. I guess you'll have to set up the internet with a browser, like Voyager or Ibrowse)

If your router is set up to hand out network addresses with DHCP, you may have a problem. You can check this in the router's config, or even from the PC by typing ipconfig /all at a command prompt. Look for "Dhcp Enabled: yes" on the PC. I couldn't figure out how to get Genesis under OS 3.9 to use DHCP so I just assigned my miggy an address within the range the router was set up to use, such as 192.168.1.10. I also had to manually plug in the DNS server addresses and gateway address. Those can be gotten from the router or the PC again with ipconfig /all. With all that typed in, it did the trick, and my miggy went broadband. :)

Hopefully somebody else has a better solution we can both learn from.

That's exactly how I had to get my A4000 to connect to my router, dnelsonfl.  I have the cable router set up to hand out addresses via DHCP.  I too force fed an address in the router's range that I knew I'd never use (unless I get way more stuff than I have now) and it was picked up by my LinkSys cable router.   Not elegant but it worked!

Argh!! Still no luck.  Have taken all the information I can glean from the PC and plugged it into the appropriate places in Genesis, and indeed Miami.  Still nothing.

Is there anyone out there who could possibly help me out by sending me a copy of their config (via email) or could explain in these hallowed pages just how to set everything up but speaking as if I was a four year old?

Ta muchly,

Jason

Hello

have you installed the SANAII driver for your NIC?

GENESIS:

Interface>create an eth0 (or so)

Interfaces:

IP address -192.168.0.2 (or what you want)

Gateway> 192.168.0.1  (should be the router address)

Netmask> 255.255.255.0

MTU> 1500

SANA-II

point to the SANA-II driver location (usually SYS:Devs/Networks/)

Resolve:

Hostname> 192.168.0.2

Go Online and take a look to the HTML Configuration page of the router with IBrowse (192.168.0.1)

EDIT: maybe you already know but . .  .configure the NIC to 10 Mbit HALF-DUPLEX. . . how? . .  . no idea with your NIC:-)

Next question - why wouldnt it work with the Norway (add on for Algor)???

@Pertinax

do you have an "Env-Archive:SANA2/" drawer (and therefore in ENV: too)  with a file config inside?

Is it Ariadne2 related?

If yes try to delete it (make a backup before)

@Framiga:

Nope, no ENV: or ENVARC:Sana2/...

Still its working now! I'm as happy as a very happy person who's just been made Professor of Happiness at Oxford University.

Pah, Norway...
