See ya!
« on: March 01, 2003, 06:39:50 PM »
I'm now totally fed up and finally leaving the Amiga scene.

I've had an AmigaOneXE-G4 on order since 11/11/2002 and I for one won't deal with a company that takes this long to deliver an already outdated computer.  Also, with all the rumours going round about OS4.0 not being ready until the end of 2003 (I don't want to use Linux!), I'm cancelling my order with Eyetech on Monday.

My A1200 tower got spilt up to get the cash to buy the A1 (sold the 4 way buffered ide interface, 68040 card, tower etc) and I even started to split up my CDTV package - so now I have no Amiga at all.  I'm not prepared to spend a small fortune again building another A1200 tower.

So, I now have £600 to spend on a PC motherboard, processor and graphics card - AMD XP2700 and ATI 9700 pro here we come.

Suddenly, I see the light.

So long.   :-)

Take a rest, catch this opportunity to learn Linux, and then you'll come back in two years. Wanna bet ?  ;-)

See ya

Don't forget to stop in sometimes to check up on things.  I think we all have been at that point sometime or another.  I also have a PC and Mac here, so choose what you need to get your computing done.  Nobody will fault you for that.

But no matter how good my PC has it with compatablity on things, it never will have that special something that Amiga offers.  Fun.  We've all lost site of that in the last few years, but hopefully OS4 and the new AmigaOnes will be available before long.  You can always save some more to buy another A1 board in the future.

Happy computing.

Let me just say that the delays on the G4XE have been due to problems outside Eyetech's control. I think the boards are quite close now, though. As for OS4, I think the "end of 2003" rumour is based on nothing but guesswork (or possibly intentional FUD).

Anyway, it's your choice, and I don't think anyone will blame you for being fed up by now. I hope you will be happy with your new system.

@EDS.bod

Sad to hear your leaving. But I have to admit that I can understand it too. I waited almost for a year to recieve my A1. And you can only run Linux on it. But for me it is different because that is what I love doing.

And you only want it for OS4. But no one can tell you when OS4 is ready. That is frustrating. I think it will at least take a few months. I might be wrong but since no one can tell me when it does arrive it seems wild guessing.

It's done when it is done and EDS.bod is done here, right? You really put such an effort in it to get the cash for it and now this. Sadly I cannot do anything for you but I think it is about time we get what we deserve for so long.

EDS.bod os one that is leaving but let's hope he is not one of many.

Well, don't feel bad.

I was holding about 1200 US dollars back for the Amiga.

I finally broke about a week ago.

Ordered me some custom PC parts.
I'll be using Windows2000 pro as my OS. (which I also ordered)

If OS4 ever does come out, I'll buy it just to be supporting Hyperion.
But as far as buying AmigaOne, well...
That money is gone now.

But one thing I would never do...
That is to buy a Pegasos/MorphOS.

I would rather use windows 98 than to use MorphOS.

Maybe some other time Eyetech.
Good luck Amiga Inc.

I think some developers already have G4 XEs. Anyone?
Allen Redhouse was in Taiwan this past week at the manufactures and should be returing with a few board.  The rest supposedly shipped just after he left.
At least that's what I remember him posting about it before he left on his trip. Two day trip both ways, talk about jet lag.
Can anyone back me up or correct me? I'm not at my home computer so this is all off the top of my head.

Hmm, its a shame people are leaving - but its understandable. :-(

Yes, the G4XEs should be with the developers now.

AmigaOS 4.0 for AmigaOne  release date ?

I firmly think that it will be done for MAY/JUNE  03.
(just a personal guess though)

it ain't bad a few months or so  :-)

"Suddenly, I see the light."

Suddenly? .. wow.. took you quite a long time. I gave up hope last november... and it's been about four months now, still no progress. Why don't you go for Pegasos like I did ..? haven't received mine yes, but ffs, its much  closer than a1, let alone os4.

I knew a MOS fan would not fail to do exactly what you have just done.

If he wanted to go for Pegasos/MOS i think he has been around long enough to do so with out you needing to tell him.

He's not a newbie you know.

(I don't want to use Linux!)

i really cant understand why some people refuse to use linux

its fair enough to be angry about a delayed product, but if you do happen to get the hardware early, whats wrong with linux?

???

Can ask you a simple question? How can I be a "MOS fan" when I don't even have Pegasos or MorphOS?
You're barking at the wrong tree now, go pick someone whose been on MOS/Pegasos side for a lot longer. My comment was just intended for a friendly suggestion, nothing more.

And if you are referring to my avatar, well, to be honest: its not made by me
