Gah, I have a song stuck in my head....
« on: March 07, 2005, 07:30:23 PM »
...on infinite loop. And it isn't "Mahna Mahna", either!

Was listening to Depeche Mode / Exciter and the track "I am you" has now completely lodged itself in the grey matter. In particular, the chorus bit.

Oh well, I'll be humming that for a week now ;-)

Does anybody have any sure fire, tried, tested and certified way of getting rid of the "infinite loop" effect?

That's worse than mine!

Mine usually end up being about 20 hours, and usually end up on shuffle.

That's not a patch on the home playlist. In total it's about 2 weeks and growing ;-)

Hmm at least it's a good album!

Try listening to something else annoyingly catchy.  I usually click through my mp3s and listen to little snippits of them to clear my head of songs.  Sometimes it's not so easy to do though.  It depends on how deeply ingrained the song is in your subconcious? short term memory? *wherever it is*, anyway;  If it's too profoundly embedded, then you will just have to suffer! Muahahaha

It could be worse, it could be Wannabe from the Spice Girls
Sooooo tellme what you want what you really really want, I'll tell you what I want what I really really want I wanna.......

There's no turning back, we're in this trap, no denying the fact, no no no no, no excusses to give, I'm the one your with, we've no alternative......... I am you and you are meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee :-P

Why on earth would you want that not stuck in your head?

But for me the Human League's "Don't you want me baby" will instantly removed any annoying* song stuck in my head... That song itself then dissipates over an hour or so.

*!WARNING! The above procedure has never been tried on a Depeche Mode song, I cannot be held responsible for the outcome of the procedure, any loss, injury or death caused by following my instructions.

I prefer Shine ;-)

I was just thinking of my poor colleagues who will have to endure my sudden attacks of humming and singing. I really like this particular track, especially the unusual chord sequences and the string section near the end.

Strangely, I wasn't too impressed when I first bought Exciter  a few years ago and ended up neglecting it in favour of their older stuff. Listening to it now I wonder what the hell was wrong with me, it's great.

I think "I feel Loved" is one of the best tracks, if only for the bassline :-)

I Sweden, the trick is to listen to an artist named Magnus Uggla. You'll get that one in the head instead. :)

I'm sure you guys must have a counter-part. :-D

I think in terms of song writing, "I am you" is probably the best song on the album.

But...

... I find the production on the songs on Exciter to be weak, weaker than Ultra, and far far far weaker than eariler albums.

What is missing are the huge counterpoints and intertwining melodies, coupled with the juxtaposition of extreme timbres. In a word Exciter is a bit too "safe".

I find I have to try and listen past the production to really enjoy the songs... that said "Dream On", "Shine" and "Good Night lovers" have a pretty good sound. But, the best production on the album has to be "Sweetest Condition" even if I'm not that keen on the song.

Aye. :-D

For me it would be "Comatose", if only for the strange melody which fits perfectly with the lyrics.

Well, it's simple, you just replace it with The Beta Band's "Easy:"

Sometimes I can be up like that, when I don’t cross myself with you
Sometimes I can be down like that, when I don’t cross myself with you

Men Without Hats' "Pop Goes the World" might also do it, or this stream, which I'm now addicted to, whoever exactly runs it.  Or Huun-Huur-Tu's version of the Internationale available here...

I wasn't saying Ultra is a bad album, just that it's not as strong as Violator or Songs of Faith and Devotion... etc...

No, I realise that. Songs of Faith and Devotion is probably my favourite, really. Violator would be next, probably.

For all it's niggles, Exciter is growing on me; at first I thought it was very poor.
