Startup key functions CyberstormPPC
« on: March 03, 2005, 05:52:26 PM »
Hey all, I think my cyberstorm ppc still works, I had it working not so long ago, but with a 1084 monitor plugged in, usually the screen should flick twice before booting, as it does with my A2630. The caps lock light also lights up at the same time, then goes out, only on the cyberstorm there is no screen.

What are my options, I know there are keystrokes to disable and change various things but I don't know what they are.

Thanks

2 things to check.

1) After the color cycle press the caps lock key repeated(if you have an original Amiga keyboard). Watch the caps lock light. If it stops responding after you hit the key ~8-9 times, then the 060 CPU is not working. If it keeps going on and off, the CPU is good/talking.

2) To get to the CSPPC early boot menu, press the F1(IIRC) while cold booting.

ah, good pointer, well the caps lock stops working after a few times, maybe I'll buzz on down to Amigakit for a new 060

I would't do that yet. The 060 itself is almsot definately good, there may be a poor connection at the socket itself. If I were you, with the computer off, I'd gently raise the 060 up in the socket. You don't necessaily need to remove the 060 entirely, just lift it about half way out. Next simply push it getly but firmly back into place in the socket. Mount everything back carefully and cross your fingers. If everything works, leave it be and don't touch again:-D

Well, after several re-seatings it's now working, for how long I don't know, glad to have it back though. Hopefully it'll keep going so long as I don't move it too suddenly or give it any jolts whilst moving it back into my room. Does anyone know if it's possible to have the 68k socket re-made or something?

Nah, I think you'll be fine. It should keep working.

Well, hopefully it'll hold up for SCAG in April :-)
