Mediator SX
« on: March 02, 2005, 10:55:16 PM »
I just won a Mediator SX on ebay, this is the first mediator i've owned.  Is there anything I need to know?

I presume I need to get the OpenPCI drivers.

I haven't got an accelerator card yet, as I lost on a BPPC due to some idiot paying a stupid amount of money for it.  Would I be right in thinking I need some form of accelerator before i can use the mediator?

You don't need to get the OpenPCI drivers as the MMCD which should come with the Mediator has drivers for Virge, Voodoo 3/4/5, network and sound cards.  And when you register with Elbox as a Mediator owner they will send the latest versions of the drivers to your email.  You also need Warp3D and Picasso96.

Join the Amiga mediator Yahoo mailing list (http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Amiga-Mediator) where you will be able to get more help on setting it all up.

You need an 030 minimum and some fast RAM too, but a PPC isn't necessary.

Thanks Lando,

I have an S3 Trio64V+ PCI card knocking around, do you know if this is supported with the Virge driver?

From the Elbox Mediator Driver Guide, the support ViRGE chipsets are as follows.

S3 ViRGE DX 86C375
S3 ViRGE 86C325

Time to move on.  Bye Amiga.org.  :(

Cheers.

Just curious...Was that the UK auction with no picture available, in which the description said something like "I think this is Mediator SX, but not sure", or something along those lines?

It was this one Mediator

he was selling a BPPC too, but i thought £170 was a bit excessive for a 166 603e with a 25MHz 040.

Yes, that's the auction that I was referring to.

I doubt that you will actually be getting a Mediator SX. You need to check if it's the 6 PCI slot version, or 4 PCI slot version.

SX is newer (6 slots), Mediator PCI 1200 is the original version (older, 4 slots). There are also other alternatives such as the lite 2 slot version.

SX is slightly superior due to reworked logic, obviously more PCI slots, direct ATX power supply support, and I believe it can also support m801 audio chipset, and the old one cannot.

Since the seller says "it was one of the first ones, before they brought out the other variants", I highly doubt it's actually the SX model, but probably the original. :-(

Well, I've not paid for it yet.  I've emailed to see how much postage i'm supposed to pay but he hasn't replied yet.  I'll send another email to see if it is an SX or not.  If it isn't i'm not paying. :-(

I've mailed to ask him if it has 6 slots, and if he can send me a picture.  I'll decide what to do when he replies.

For the price I've won itfor, I could buy a brand new 4-slot Mediator from Elbox.

@mdma
You should contact the original owner of the board and ask him to write to elbox for the change of ownership. Otherwise try to write directly to Elbox.... s oyou can receive officail updates in your mailbox.

It didn't even occur to me to do that.  I will do if/when it arrives! :-D
