Amiga 600HD startup problem
« on: March 02, 2005, 09:45:45 PM »
I have a 600HD that has a startup problem.  On a cold boot the power led comes on and the caps light stays on.  It looks like it is hanging and dead but after a few minutes the HD spins up! and then it boots up fine.  Like it needs to warm up, anyone heard of this phenomena? ;)

Have you tried it without the hard drive, Or if you have one, Another drive and see what happens. Maybe the amiga is trying to validate the drive, Hence the extended boot time, But i could be wrong.

well since the HD sounds like it was dieing I removed the HD and it still does that. (on a COLD Boot)  I also installed a IBM 4GB Laptop HD and got it working!  and it sadly does the same thing.  Must be something else...  Bummer, well this unit has no sound anyway so it's on it's last leg now.  Doomy was right the A600's SUCK! ;)

Does the motherboard look scratch-free, from both sides? Maybe there's a trace which has been cut.

Other than that, it's probably a custom chip that went busted. It's very hard to guess which part is fubar. :-(
