A570 missing power supply
« on: February 21, 2005, 09:02:28 PM »
Hi all! i just got a A570 CD-Rom for my A500. It comes without any documentation and/or Power Supply. What i would like to know if the power supply is the same used on the A500 or do i need any special power supply in order to make it work??

Cheers

A standard A500 power supply will power this unit for you.
Cheers,
Cartman.

Also, once you've connected up the drive the A500 won't power up without the A570 being on too. This can cause memory problems.

Your main problem may be that you need a special plug. My A500 had a square powerplug, the A570 had a round one.

When I bought my A570 on EBay it came with no power supply so I bought a standard A500 power supply and it worked fine.
With regards to the above post however, both of mine had square power supply connectors.

It should work. I remember that the A1200 supplies are pretty gutless, but I think that it should power a CD-ROM.

If it has a square plug then a computer supply should work. If it is round then it is probably the same as a A590 and/or 1541 (remember the old C64 floppy :P)

The power supply shipped with the A1200 was an A600 power supply which was only 25 Watts.  The smallest A500 power supply was 35 Watts (older ones were 45 Watts).  You can try the A600 power supply but I'd recommend finding an A500 power supply.  (Unless you have a BigFoot power supply which would be able to connect both with the proper adapter.)

OK some refresher material for my fellow C= friends:  The A590 does NOT have a round power cable nor does the C=1541!  The A590 uses the SAME one as the A500/A570 !!  And the C=1541 uses a regular PC power cable !!!

I actually have a A590 hooked up to a A500 right now.

They must have come in both varieties then, because mine definitely had a round plug.  The power supply itself was not the same as the A500 unit.

I've never seen an A590 with a square plug.  Also, I've never seen an A570 with a round plug.  Not saying they don't exist, because who knows what Commodore did.

BTW, the 1541-II has a round plug power supply.  It's probably this that is the same as the A590.
Time to move on.  Bye Amiga.org.  :(

My A590 came with a regular A500 PS, the manual even stated that IF the PS has a switch to leave it ON and use the A500 one to power up/down the A500/A590!  I guess the A590/A570 normally came with a A500 type PS W/O a switch on them as you need to leave them ON and just use the A500 switch.  I am sure there are different PS but I am just stating what mine has, and it is a US model (if that matters)

Actually you are incorrect.

There were two revisions of the c=1541. The first had an integrated power supply (connected to an IEC power cable), the second had an external power supply that had a round plug.

The first 1541 was around when the original C64 came out, but when the newer C64C came out the second 1541 was available. The two versions can be distinguished by size and colour. The original was a brownish colour, the second was beige.

I can not remember but I think the second 1541 was called the 1541-II.

As you will see here: http://www.amiga-hardware.com/showhardware.cgi?HARDID=534 the A590 did come with a round power plug (they could well have had square as well, but I have never seen one). I will confirm from my own experience less than a week ago that the 1541 power supply will power it.

That's enough for Amiga Hardware 101 for today... Tomorrow...

@cartmanau

Actually you are the one that is confused! Do you need to repeat Commodore 101? I said "C=1541", which is the ORIGINAL (brown) 1541, and that used a PC power plug.  (The BEIGE 1541C also did!) I never said anything about the 1541-II, which uses a 1541-II/1581 external PS.
