SCSI controller advice...
« on: February 18, 2005, 08:16:51 PM »
Hi everyone...
Could someone suggest or give an advice about these controllers for Amiga 2000:

Oktagon 2008
GVP Series II
GVP Impact rev2

Thank you very much,
Andrea

 I have never used the Octogon controller, but I have used GVP. The GVP stuff is good, but get the newest versions you can.
 It is generally best to have your accelerator work as your first SCSI interface too. It speeds things up. If your accelerator does not have SCSI, and you can't find or afford such a card, any of these should work - The GVP will most likely work with more hardware and software however.
A2000 GVP 40MHz \'030, 21Mb RAM SD/FF, 2 floppies, internal CD-ROM drive, micromys v3 w/laser mouse
A1000 Microbotics Starboard II w/2Mb 1080, & external floppy (AIRdrive)
C-128 w/1571, 1750, & Final Cartridge III+

In an Amiga 2000 there is actually not much wrong with a Commodore A2091 card. And ofcourse highly compatible!

On the 2091, make sure to get at least 7.0 firmware. Older ROMS can't handle drives over 1GB.

The Oktagon 2008 uses very expensive and hard to find ZIP package ram. The GVP HC+8 uses very easy to find/cheap 30pin standard simms.

Oktagon = 8mb max onboard
GVP HC+8 = 8mb max onboard
A2091 = 2mb max onboard

If you find an available GVP series 2 HC+8 controller, any rom revision above 4.4 will allow 2gig scsi harddrives and cd-rom without hassles ( this is my experience anyway )

Az
Completely useless? I can always be used as a bad example  :lol:

I read that before, but never had problems. Used 2 and 4GB drives on an A2091 (rev 6.6) and 2 A590's (Rev 6.6 and Rev 6.0).

Why would they not work? HDToolbox does see them as wrong size, GVP Expertprep works fine?
