No PC.
(Actually there are three here, plus a laptop, spare mobo and cpu, but none of them are operational, and I don't have winUAE anyway.)

This is going from bad to worse. I think I killed the drive when I moved it, as I can't get anything at all from it now. That might also explain why nothing showed up on the A1.

I have a 2nd drive in my peg. It's an old 10gig one which used to be my boot drive.
When I got my new drive, I moved the old one to the middle of the cable and used the new one to boot from.

I've now managed to get my peg to boot, from the MOS cd but only when I move the old drive to the end of the cable.
If the CD is not in the tray, the MorphOS logo comes up but then I get a black screen.

Is there any easy way I can check if my drive is dead and is there anyway to retrieve data from it?

There are professional data recovery companies who can recover the data from the drive.

Erm, over here if it is a case of the HD is dead, then I'll warn you now, if its more then needing the circuit board replaced, then you will likely end up paying in the region of about £1000 per GB recovered.

Of course you could always let me have a crack at recovering the drive...

My rates are measured in beers per hour, payable on meeting up in person :-D

I can't garuntee anything but from what I can see you'll not be loosing anything by trying.

That's quite possibly the best offer I've had in years. :-D

Where are you again?

Of course you could come to SCAG on April 2nd and I could probably have a look at it there.

ping me in IM or using the PM system here if you want to talk further on this subject.

@Leander:

Cheers for the offer. I haven't ruled it out but have been fiddling around again.

I now notice that when I boot my A1 with both drives connected, it boots straight into a shell.

Any tips on where to go from there?

Wahey! I finally got the Pegasos drive to show up on the A1. I've now copied all the files from it that I needed, then quick-formatted it before copying the files back.

Now I have another problem.
When I switch on my Peg, the MOS logo comes up but then all I get is a black screen.
Booting from the CD works but no drives show up.

What I would suggest is that you get a new hard disk, copy those files over to that, and then dump the current drive, it sounds like its all but dead anyways...

You might be right (although I'm not convinced) but I'm a wee bit too skint just now.
