Audio partition not validated

Hullo,

Just filled my audio partition and now I get 'disk not validated'
messages whenever I try to delete anything.

Can someone reccommend a non-destructive way to rescue this?

Well, AFAIK there is FFS repair util in OS4, so better move that disk to A1 for fixing... when it is done move it back to Pegasos. Nasty advice, but I cant imagine any other way to fix FFS partitions. All old FFS repair tools have 4GB limit...

I'm surprised there is nothing for FFS on MOS.

Just had a thought - if I copied everything I need from the partition,
could I just format it? I don't know where I'll find the storage space
but it's another option.

Wilse yeah that would work, had to do that a few times when a PFS partition crapped itself. Ended up switching to FFS because the repair tools were just that much better.

OK, I appear to have entered the disaster zone.

I took the drive out of my peg and put it into my A1. I couldn't get it to show up, no matter what jumper settings I used, although I realised when I awitched my A1 on that the dodgy partition has a namesake on the A1 but not all the partitions have the same names, so I was exoecting the others to show up?

Anyway, no joy, so I thought I'd begin plan b and put the drive back in the peg. Now the thing won't boot.
I get "error while trying to load or boot" and even attempting to boot from the original MOS CD (boot /pci/cd boot.img) doesn't work; "no filesystem recognised".

To further antagonise me, there is a pro-station audio track on the dodgy partition which is nearly finished. I had a fairly recent back-up on another partition but when I loaded it, some of the audio files were corrupted. Now I can;t get to them at all, so I guess that's moot.

I'm now starting to rant and mutter - I better have large drink.............

(Edit. Although I wonder.. because MOS and OS4 read old Amiga HDs, and people have swapped HDs from system to another...but...)

"not validated" just means disk is no longer writeable, but you can read disk still and copy files. You may lose last modified files, but once files are copied to safe place you could format partition.

Btw. I recall you have pre-april Pegasos 1? With those boards filesystem goes corrupt sooner or later because of cache coherency bug. That also means that files can go corrupt...

really??? damn! another little "bomb" connected to having these early boards.

i wonder how many of us pre-april orphans there are.....

and i guess there will never be a solution to this.

Bugger - I'm not sure. I thought I had one with the april fix but maybe not.
I got it through the 'phoenix' offer, if that timeline means anything.

There were two kind of offers... one where you paid 300EUR and got working board and another where you paid nothing and got someone 2nd hand return board. If you paid for your board then it is ok... filesystems just happen to explode sometimes.

But how did you connect/setup that HD to your A1? I feel ashamed because I brainstormed with this stupid "try it on another machine" idea... :-(

Well, yeah but you'd have thought there might be some disc recovery tool or something.
This does not reflect well on the OS as a choice for me.

I connected it to the 2nd ide i/f on the mobo, tried various jumper settings, then tried connecting to the same cable the A1 HD is on.
I couldn't get it to show up at all.

Please don't. It's not your fault. :-D
If anything, I blame myself for not having a proper back-up and MorphOS for allowing it to invalidate but then having nothing to fix it.

If the disk recovery stuff on the A1 works, I have to say it could be the kicker that tips me to using OS4, rather than MOS.

No PC.
(Actually there are three here, plus a laptop, spare mobo and cpu, but none of them are operational, and I don't have winUAE anyway.)
