@analogkid:
Has someone released a better screenmode creator than P96Mode? CGXMode is really as easy as it gets and it is definately one of the reasons why I chose to use CGX when I had a CV64.
First of all you understand how to use CGXMode instantly, the gui is logical and clean.
Secondly, when creating screenmodes it has a really good predefined list of screenmodes (including vesa modes) you can choose from when creating new screenmodes. Moreover these predefined screenmodes shown are only the ones that both your graphics card and monitor can manage. What your monitor can manage is based on your selection of monitor. There is a rather big list of predefined monitors to select and if it is not there, it is just a matter of inputting the maximums for your monitor.
The third thing that is really handy is that you can actually move screenmodes around in the screenmode list (up or down) and change their order without recreating the whole list from beginning in the order you want it to be.
The fourth thing is that you can change all the timings to an exact number. Try setting the pixelclock in P96Mode to an exact number..
Btw, your friend might have had the problem that the CV64/3D in Z2 mode was dog slow - unusable even, much much slower than the graphics provided by the osc/ecs/aga chipset. It is resolved by running enforcer early in the Startup-Sequence for some reason I definately would like to know.
@Crusher:
There is no difference in image quality between P96 and CGX, the screenmodes must have had different timings. I must also add that the CV64/3D card in itself has a _really_ lousy picture quality - blurry, dark, bad balance between the colours etc. Lent my CV64 to a friend and got his CV64/3D to use whilst he had my card - what a difference, the image on the trinitron monitor looked like it belonged to a rather bad 14" shadowmask

! It felt like back in the days when I switched from a old S3 card to a Matrox card, but unfortunately the other way around. But ofcourse, everything is relative - I am sure someone is going to tell me that the CV64/3D does have good image quality
