Instructions for use of XCopy Pro

Greetings,
Is there anyone who could point me in the right direction for finding some instructions on how to properly use Xcopy Pro?

I have been successful in copying some disks, but failed at copying others.

For example: I could copy Kickstart 1.2 and The Three Stooges game with no problem, but I could not get Kickstart 1.3 or Shadow of the Beast to copy. I'm using an A1000 with KS 1.2

 I feel that my lack of understanding about the correct settings for copying different disks is most of the problem.

Well, XCopyPro instructions/settings kind of depend on the version you're using, along with the copy protection of the original disks.  For the most part, picking DOSCOPY (or DOSCOPY+) and setting your source and destination drives should be adequate for any non-protected or lightly protected disks.  NIBBLE copy should also work, (and it even works for some copy protected disks) but it takes longer.  BAMCOPY and BAMCOPY+ aren't terribly useful under most conditions.

You shouldn't have had any problems with copying Workbench 1.3 using DOSCOPY, DOSCOPY+, or NIBBLE, as it has no copy protection, whatsoever.  If this copy failed, perhaps you tried to use a bad (physically damaged) destination diskette?

Shadow of the Beast (provided it's a legitimate original) won't copy easily.  It requires custom hardware (like the old Synchro-Express) to make a perfect copy.  Some later disk-copy parameter programs (such as Maverick) could copy SoTB by actually applying a crack to the game.  XCopyPro is not that type of copier, though.

Yes, I do have my original disks from like circa 1989 and that's exactley the problem. I feel I'm pushing my luck to keep using the originals. I won't even let the kids touch them! I'd like to back them up before they are toast.

I was trying to copy KickStart 1.3 (for the same reasons as above) but I couldn't get it to copy and yet the disk seems to be good. Copying KS 1.2 with nibble mode worked fine. No luck with KS 1.3

I have a copy of Marauder II and remember that working well for everything at the time(Approx 1987-1991), but I can't find my manual for it and it's needed to enter phrases to use the Marauder program.

Hmm.. strange.  I don't remember the disk format of these two being fundamentally different from each other.  Of course, I haven't used the A1000 nearly as much as other Amigas.  (I own one, but it's not in great shape, and I just keep it as an example, more than really a usable machine.)

Anyhow, maybe you could try using df0: as both source and destination (diskswap mode)?  Maybe your df0: is having troubles reading some disks written by your df1:?  

As for backing up Shadow of the Beast...  The easiest way I know of is if you have a higher-end Amiga, WHDLoad can install you a HD copy, and that is a piece of cake to back up.  That's what I did.  Plus it's nice to be able to load the game without needing any disks at all...  If you must have a disk version, I just downloaded the cracked version, as nothing I had could create a perfect copy from my original.  (shrug)

Finally got KickStart 1.3 to copy using Xcopy Pro in Doscopy+ mode and by setting to  Sync 4489 and copying from DF1: to DF0:

Not sure that any of the above should have made any difference but it worked!

Also, I grabbed a copy of Maverick and it worked also.

Now on to try it with backing up some of my acient but well liked games....

somethings wrong, you should have NO problem at all copying WB1.3, your floppy disk drive head is probably misaligned with the one that made WB1.3 diskette. There are ways to calibrate it, but thats hard work.
I'd try using df1: as source drive. And if that doesn't work, copy some tracks with df0: as source and others with df1: as source..

I agree, I shouldn't have any problem copying WB 1.3. I was trying to make a back up of Kickstart 1.3, and I still agree with you it should be problem free.

Anyway, It appears that my the backup copy of Kickstart 1.3 that I made was working all along. It appears that the real problem that I was having was that my customized copy of WB 1.3 doesn't like to work with KS 1.3. It works fine with KS 1.2. When I try my copy of KS 1.3 with an factory image of WB 1.3 all works fine.

Perhaps it is an issue with the drivers for my Microbotic Starboard that I have on the side of my A1000.
