Work Sucks
« on: February 08, 2005, 07:51:53 AM »
So, anyone got any IT / Sys Admin Horror Stories to tell?
No?
Ok, I've got one, after 3 60 + hour weeks, and a 2nd attempt at a planned complete network migration, the company I work for was held up in it's latest attempt to mega upgrade their network by the crummy API and buggey damenons that keep spontanously restarting of a 3rd party network provisioning product.

It's 3 AM and my head is awash with network topologies and bash shell commands. AND I HAVE TO GO BACK AT 8AM!

Astronomy! YES ASTRONOMY! I'M GOING BACK for a masters degree in ASTRONOMY! Heck, where's the stress in that? LOL find this star before it's TOO late!
HA Now that I finnally got a job in IT I'm really starting to dislike it.

Aye!
I work with tech support. I've talked to the worst of them!

Me: "Ok, now press the Start-button..."
Customer: "Whozzat?"
Me: "The green button in the lower left corner of the screen."
'click'
Customer: "Ok, now the TV is turned off!"

What a lousy profession IT has turned out to be. 30 years ago if everyone knew that the computer field would be nothing more than a bunch of digital janitors, everyone would have chosen a different career.

Hey we're all done.
The server room now has most several better, prettier rows of blinking lights!

Definately worth the 36 hour marathon.

Small consolation I know, but the alternative to work is to not work.  On the whole I would rather be working. Congrats on the pretty blinking lights! I know how it feels when they don't blink.
Any obstacle can be an opportunity, try a different perspective.
