You know, I never did figure out what those mechanical antelopes on the box cover and T-shirt had to do with the game.

Not exactly what I meant :-)

{edit}I prefer the monochromatic Speccy version than the colourful C64 version{/edit}

The C64 version of Shadow Of The Beast rocked! Pure genius putting this game onto cartridge, making it much better than even the humble Speccy could do! :-)

If only the Interface II for the Speccy48k took off there'd be more than 10 ROM Cartridges for it :-(

I never had the Shadow of the Beast shirt, but I did have the shirt for Psygnosis' "AWESOME".

I ran across a pic of that shirt - wearing it here.  A friend of mine gave me the boxed Awesome game for my birthday, having stolen it from a WaldenSoftware store earlier in the week.  Gak!

Uhm... this Shadow Of The Beast thing that is going on out there in the world...   like people claiming the game being so and so fantastic...   but really, I've played the games in the series some twenty times or something, each time hoping that the feeling I had of the game being so completely uninspiring and dull would be wrong, but each time I'm really disappointed. What's the deal? Good grapchis... yes? Good music... yes? Good game... no?

It's a cult game, don't try to understand the appeal :-P

It's just a ridiculously challenging game.  If you want to complete a game within a month don't play SotB.  The difficulty curve is off the scale before it really starts :-P

The game is Great! ...but you need to turn on the trainer otherwise  it is useless.

You can get the WHDLoad version that has the cheats, or you can try to do them with the codes but it's just easier to use the patch.
Going Bananas over AMIGAs since 1987...

Looking for Fusion Fourty PNG ROMs V3.4?

I am sure many here don't recall, but when Shadow of the Beast came out for the Amiga, it was the most impressive combination of graphics, animation, and sound.  It was amazing to see the level of animation (and of such well rendered images) that was taking place.  As far as gameplay went, it was nothing at all special.  The only motivation to keep going was the hope that new backdrops would present themselves, really.

At this point, I would say that the most impressive display of graphics + sound (forgetting animation) was still Defender of the Crown.  It is still a beautiful thing to behold.

Perhaps more impresive, relative to the platform specs, than Shadow of the Beast for Amiga is Shadow of the Beast for the C64.  I cannot believe the level of animation achieved on that 1MHz, 8-bit machine in that game.  It does not match the Amiga version at all, but the Amiga is many times more powerful a machine.

I love Shadow of the Beast for many reasons and although the Amiga version was a master piece of Graphics and Sound, I personaly think that the Super CDROM2 version for the PC Engine is the best version, Graphically the miggy cannot be touched but sound wise ...wow and if someone could put the miggy version of the game with the PC engines sound track then I think it would be almost perfect...well if a little more gameplay was added too.

They could of made a CD32 version and used cd audio for the soundtrack (the best of both worlds  :-D ).

Some reasons to love shadow of the beast:

It was the first dual playfield/parallax scrolling game on the Amiga platform and did things that weren't available on the PC or mac or home gaming platforms at the time. It was an ARCADE feature..

Also it was done by Psygnosis, who later was bought by Sony and folded into the Playstation development unit..

I have the game and had the T-shirt way back when.  My son
took the shirt, and I don't where it is!

Don't forget the music in it.  I even bought the Immortal CD because of the Shadow of the Beast music.

Someone is doing a digital remake of the game (for PC). It has
been mentioned in the forum in a previous thread.  It looks
like it will be really good when finished.

I know I have mentioned the PC engine version already but I just wanted to add if you can get hold of the PC Engine version the whole of the soundtrack which is about 15 songs can be played on a standard CD player just skip track 1 and 2 on the disk....its worth buying just for the music.
