Anachronism Industries is dead, but my personal business relationship with Individual Computers remains strong.

The Catweasel MK4 is shipping and 'Auctions by redrumloa' expects to have stock of this great product shortly. I expect to place another general product order from Individual Computers within the next day or so. If there are any US (or other) customers who would like a specific item, feel free to PM me directly. Likewise if you would like to reserve the one of the very first Catweasel MK4s, PM me.

BTW some people seem to have missed this part.

Quote
Kylwalda built in
While the old Catweasel models always had their own floppy drives that were installed in addition to the existing controller and drives, the MK4 has the option of using the existing diskdrives. After the machine has started, the drives can be used just like before, and after the drivers have been loaded, the Catweasel can take control of these drives when necessary. This is especially useful for smaller cases with fewer drive bays.
We already addressed this problem earlier with an additional product called 'Kylwalda'.

Right on, I've never owned a Catweasel but I think I'm going to get one this time around. The SID socket is just too cool...(and part of my C128 will yet "live again"..:-P)

Not this month as originally announced, the delay of the Catweasel MK4 has pushed it back slightly. With any luck it will be available in March.

-Edit-
I am placing the order later tonight(my time approximately 10 hours from this posting). Get your request in if interested.

Is this the Amiga or Intel (can't think of what else to call it) version of the Catweasel?
Any obstacle can be an opportunity, try a different perspective.

This version is PCI only, no zorro connector. It ships with drivers for PC(2000/XP to start). Amiga drivers for Prometheus PCI boards will be next in about ~10 days.

Prometheus only? Or Prometheus via OpenPCI?

They are written for OpenPCI, but with only the Prometheus being officially supported. Very doubtfull it will work on anything else, if it does it is coincidental and unsupported.

Well, assuming openpci.library is written properly, it should work fine (after all, it's just a wrapper for the hardware-specific libraries). Then again, this is the Amiga community we're talking about. . . . ;-)

-EDIT-

Speaking of libraries, I'm kind of surprised no one's written wrappers to emulate other vendors' libraries (e.g. a prometheus.library that wraps the Mediator's pci.library). Unless doing so would trigger someone's RDB erasing code. :-/ At some point, those Amiga hardware and software vendors (we all know which ones) will grow up. They won't be able to compete in the "real world" until they do.

The whole point of OPENPci is that its Open. Programs written for use of it should work on the hardware that is supported by OpenPCI. This is why this initiative was started..

@ Red

I have read the description of the MK4 on Jens' site, but I still don't understand fully. If I got one of those, on a Prometheus, in my A4000T, could that be used with a standard PC drive to boot a nondos Amiga disk, or would I only be able to access Amiga dos disks after Workbench/driver bootup?

I'm just passing on the official information. Only Prometheus is officially supported. In the unlikely event it works on other systems, it is completely unsupported. Do not expect it to work on MorphOS. Does that mean the OpenPCI API is used, but other Prometheus specific code is also used? I don't know. I'm not a programmer and I don't have anything to do with this driver.

Short answer: No. You would not be able to boot from a PC drive on the Amiga.

Long answer: I think it can be done with some creative setup of a Kickflash or Algor. Ask some of these users if they've ever gotten their PCI available upon bootup.
