Well they have not yet editted the website to remove references to "end of January" but it does say PLANNED release.

Its kinda par for the course here.. I mean look at ACK's "product" (have to use quotes until they really do exist!!)

@Methanoid

>I mean look at ACK's "product"

ACK's accelerators were announced as coming out first quarter 2005 -- they've still got two months until they're late.

Although . . . we were promised pictures.

Exactly, where are the pix and why does ACK ignore PMs and Posts/Comments to their announcement thread.

Ignoring people is NOT a good way to get people to BUY!  :-x

@Methanoid

A lot of people don't read PMs -- I've e-mailed him with questions, and got a very quick, very detailed response.

I was kidding about the picture thing -- lighten up!

@adonay

The PPC chip being using in the "trap door" version was designed for embedded systems (basically a 603e) and runs very cool. I don't think heat will be all that big a problem ("think" being the operative word here! ;-))

i agree to that. Remember that PPC processors are designed much better than x86 architecture ones. They use very optimised architecture in order to reduce power requirement. My PowerMac equipped wit G3@400MHz running at 433MHz runs all the time with a room-level temperature (ca. 16-22 C), even after several hours playing quake3 or emulating pc with VirtualPC. The 603e goes hot faster, but even my 160mhz one, overclocked to 225mhz runs ok with standard cooling. So i think there shouldn`t be problems with cooling it in standard desktop case. (on the other hand: if you plan to put Dragion in, wouldn`t you need the tower for hdd`s, cd`s and other things?)
MacBook C2D 1.83/1.25GB/80GB/Combo
AMD Sempron 3400+  AM2 1800MHz->2400MHz/1GB/80GB/DVD-RW

no Amigas ...  :-(

I think its better if he keeps on working on his product so that one day he can actually release it rather than hanging out in forums and making big announcements.

Yes, maybe NOT making an announcement until there was more than vapor?  ;-)

I have emailed him (my mistake not going to the website!) but I do still think if he has MADE an announcement and promised more info in the "New Year" perhaps some info should be forthcoming.

Oh and I don't define "New Year" as any time in 2005. A quick straw poll here gave the result as "New Year" = "January"

It's now 31st Jan ;)

PS: Anyone interested in Dragon or just the ACK thang? :)

@ Methanoid

As far as I have heard ACK plan to sell the small version of the board for 399Eur and the big one (which also works stand alone in a microAtx case) for 499Eur excluding VAT. Thats what he (or someone using his nick) said on irc some time ago.. But of course until theres some working prototype shown this is as much as vapor than the dragon so who cares..

Hadn't heard that (but then I don't do the IRC thing). I'm assuming that price doesn't include OS4 (it would be cool if it DID, though!)

This is just par for the course in Amiga-land.

Guess we can add Dragon, ACK PPC card and Shark PPC to the ever-growing list (Blizzard G3/G4, Cyberstorm G3/G4, BoXer, AmiJoe, AmigaOne-1200, Walker, AmigaMCC, Amiga Coldfire, Merlancia Tsunami/Apocalyps, Brainstormer, A/Box, Paraglide, Amiga 5000/6000, Amirage K2, Pios TransAM etc etc)
