Artist Wanted
« on: January 29, 2005, 01:18:15 PM »
As part of an experiment to raise awareness for unknown artists, we are seeking artists to participate in the creation of a book. You can contribute both written texts and visual artworks. The book will contain 200 pages yet to be created. It will be printed in four-colour-print (CMYK) with a circulation of at least 1000 copies, and is to be financed and distributed via eBay.
If you'd like to know more about this project called "International Artists Lounge", please feel free to check out our website at www.internationalartistslounge.com or go to www.ebay.com and search for "to be created".
Cheers,
JD, Victor & Torsten

Er.. What has this got to do with Amiga? Is this spam?

Though,a book could be written about the whole Amiga  saga. I just don't think the final chapter is complete. :-D

as someone who's been a professional artist (ie, i've been PAID) for many, many, many, many years......i have to ask:

who's getting the money for this?

i mean, it's a nice "idea" and all that, but isn't this just an excuse to have artists - unpaid - contribute to somebodies little project?

trust me, artists don't REALLY want to be famous.
they just want to be creative while earning a living wage.

I can - and have - a web site with pics that I have made and it's all free.
why should i give stuff away for somebody else's book?

this is not meant as a slam. i'm simply asking questions.
the no CARB diet- no Cheney, Ashcroft, Rumsfeld or Bush.

Moved to the Coffee House.  Probable spam considering the person's post count.

@ Cecilia

I know what you mean (not saying I'm a paid artist, but I've done a few traces that were paid for, and some medical posters that were paid for). Edit: and a fizzy drink label.

Somebody once approached me to a logo for them (it was going to be printed at A4) and I sat with the dude and designed something. He said could he show it to his boss and they would make a decision because there was another logo they were considering.
"Sure" I said.
And I printed them a B&W logo to scale, and then reduced the colour raytraced logo to about 200 x 200 and saved that as a medium-quality jpeg on a disk for them. I said "phone me if you want me to go ahead."

Anyway the next day I got a call saying sorry, they couldn't use that logo, they were going to use another person's offering. I said cool beans, cheers.

However...the next week I got a call from a production house. An irate guy wanted to know what I was thinking giving my client a 200x 200 image that was to be printed at A4..

 :-o

That conversation was very short and I never dealt with that individual again (the one who tried to steal my logo).

X-dude  :-D

yeah, I just love it when people assume that because one is either an "artist" or has done something artistic that it's just, well, "easy" so they can rip you off, no problem.

i mean, after all, you can make more pictures in your sleep, so why bother to actually pay anyone for the years of practise, effort, sacrific, and disipline it took to make that picture?

if I do something for "free" it should be MY choice, NOT theirs!

I think the Ascci SuperHero needs to save us!
(wouldn't it be funny if Karlos and myself got rich off that stupid idea?)

@ Cecilia and Karlos

I think the crowning achievement (and one that would tie this all in together) would be if you two sewed a tag onto Bloodline's sock that said "Who's ya feckin' daddy?"

Hmmm, the ideal Xmas gift...

Tagged amiga socks. Might have to use conventional industrial grade starch to get the firmness - I don't think bloodline "has it in him" to mass produce the genuine article
