cnet.device and amiTCp 4.0 demo Problem
« on: January 26, 2005, 08:39:30 PM »
Hi there,

at first please sorry my bad english :)
I have a big problem, i bought an PCMCIA Ethernetcard for my Amiga 1200.

Amiga is running with 68030/50 + 32MB Fastram (Blizzard 1230IV) Kick 3.0/Workbench 3.0 / 2.2GB 2.5"

I bought the Linksys Combo PCMCIA Ethernetcard from ebay, the Card works good with my PIII Notebook so it works.

Now i have download the cnet.device and amiTCP4.0 Demo and copied it to Amiga.

cnet.device i copyed to sys:devs/networks

The big Problem is, in AmiTCP Setup i must use an interfacecard but i cannot find the cnet.device there an have only the following interfaces:

None ()
SLIP/CSLIP
PPP
X.25
Ethernet
Arcnet
GGBus+ Ethernet

When i use the Ethernet, i come to an menu where i can select 5 different types of network interface:

CBM A2065
Hydra Ethernet
Golden Gate wd80xx (trossi)
ASDG EB920
Village Tronic Ariadne

The Help says when my interface is not there i should take the equivalent card and edit manually later.

So the problem is i not have found cnet.device there and all...
i have no idea how to configure this manually, cos i have no idea, wich file, and what i should write into it :(

So i wan´t not to connect internet and all, i wan´t to SERVE the Amiga Harddisk so that i can acces with my Windows 2000 PC the Files stored on Amiga to burn the Files Backup with PC.

Please Help

ah i forgot to say:
Connection is through an Netgear RP114 Router, so the Amiga must get IP Dynamically from Router (DHCP) i dunno this work with Amiga?

IIRC, select Ethernet, and A2065 device in the setup.  Then, you need to edit the interfaces file in the db directory replacing A2065.device with CNET.device, and other settings.  You can look at the samples in the cnetdevices.lha for examples.

Time to move on.  Bye Amiga.org.  :(

Hello,

thank you for your knowledge.
Have done like you mean, now the Link-Led on Adapter is burning and the data-led is blinking sometimes, still can´t access the network (tried ping command from win2000).
Think have some problems with the dhcp settings from the router but thin i figure it out next time.

greetings snoopy  :-)

AmiTCP does not support DHCP as standard.  You will need to assign a static IP to the Amiga (as well as DNS information, gateway, subnet mask, etc.) .  Just put it outside the DHCP pool range of your router and you should be okay.

If you need DHCP, then you should use the Miami demo.  It's not as fast as AmiTCP, and requires more resources (and MUI), but it supports DHCP and is easy to configure.
Time to move on.  Bye Amiga.org.  :(

Hi,

i think i´m to stupid to get it work :(
Have tried some settings in router setup but works not.
So i i´m tired to test and set and test new to check at least it will still not work... and when it works i think my next problem will be that i can´t access the files from Win2000 via ftp or some like that...

Other is i have setup my router special for 4 PC Network so i don´t like to change something cos i have much problems to get it work so that i like it.

 :(

I give up sometimes very fast and now in this situation to.
Sure it´s possible to make but don´t have much time to check something damn amiftp and so like.

I will now Transfer the Files via an PCMCIA Flashcard.

Can i use any Compactflashcard with an Adapter ( Typ 1 or 2)
or is there any Megabyte the maximum, like 16 MB or something like that.
