Without wanting to condone these abuses, but I got the idea this kind of news selected for it's 'entertainment' value.

How much do you hear about kids being bullied to death or being beaten up at home? Wich is far far worse than abuse (apart from rape) I think.
I think you hit the nail on the head here!
I mean, not that I had anywhere near the horrible experiences of any of these people, but I can't see the "news" being interested in the subtle emotional abuse that many children, including myself, endure for years. Because it's not something that can be said in two sentences, it's not worth mentioning.

If it's any small comfort, know that you aren't alone. Age 10-14 is a period in my life I'd much rather forget. Sadly these experiences play heavily into the people we become. For me it was probably a contributing factor into why I lived in a bottle for so many years.
Someone has to state the obvious and that someone is me!

Well, for me it was from age 7 'till 12
They weren't particularly fond of freaks like me.
A very close (straight) friend of mine admired me for keeping my head up and resist. Resistance is futile (they won't stop anyway), but it helps against being assimilated, if you understand what I mean :-).

Gosh, was I glad that after that I was going to a normal (well, kinda, more like hippy) school, twas like coming home.

And probably why I lived in a haze of powder and pills for so long.

A comforting hug to all of you...  My own adolescence and childhood was pretty harsh, I was a victim of bullying to a very severe degree but found the only way to cope was to turn everything in on myself and change me for the benefit of those who sought to torment me.  I also had to deal with a father who regarded children as little more than an inconvenience at best, and a dictatorial monster at worst.

For a while the facade worked well, but after a few years the cracks started to appear and by my late teens I was an empty shell, living in denial of my own experiences and I eventually reached critical mass so to speak and the end results live with me to this very day.

However, over the years I've learned much about myself and human nature, to speak up for the underdog, to face fears and most profoundly I've learned the power of forgiveness.  I also have a huge problem dealing with the situation whenever my two nieces fight or express any violent tendancies.

@Thread

I think those figures are concocted to attract more people into the teaching profession.

There's a drama on tv here called TEACHERS where this sort of thing is glamourised. This follows a drop in interest in the teaching profession.

It's like they're saying:

"Yes, The pay sucks, the conditions stink, you'll have no life left and you might even get beaten up by students. But hey ! There might be some little perks included you know!"

As if...

You are more likely to get blackmailed with threats of rape accusations if you don't offer the right results on the test papers.

/Edit

I wouldn't dream of going into the teaching profession. My friend is a teacher and he is not a happy chappy. :-?

My neighbor Marv was a teacher for two years. Now he's a carrier for the Post Office. He said the students are indifferent towards you at best, the administration is a good ole boys club, and the students parents treat you as if you are an obstacle in their childs life.

He says he gets more respect handing people their mail.
(And he sends his kids to private school)

I don't think I could teach, I just don't think I have the patience with people that I should have, I'd probably end up lamping the mouthy ones...

I have no time for the ignorant and no inclination to waste my time trying to teach people in a situation where *I* am viewed as the enemy by all sides.

I found learning martial arts was the best way.  No man scares me. Period.  It isn't because I know I could beat them in a fight, but all martial arts give you self confidence and a belief in yourself.
