Is it dangerous to use OS3.9 (+BB2) _without_ the ROM UPDATE?
« on: January 20, 2005, 06:59:40 AM »
Well, because setpatch/BlizKick romupdate procedure warm-reboots the amiga, thus causing the picassoII autoconfig data to dissapear (so it is not accesible at the 1st boot, only after another warm reboot) and I do not want to manually reboot the machine manually, I wonder if someone knows any dangers when using OS3.9+BB2 WITHOUT the ROMUPDATES... It seems to be working fine the last couple of days...
Mind that I have an Elbox FastATA1200 32bit ver, so it automatically installs scsi.device v50.00 ...
It is modules of the romupdate like FastFileSystem and FileSystem.resource that make me think...
Any info will be appreciated... :-)

No danger, just missing some features like the new Shell, new Ram Disk, new exec.library and >4GB support for the internal IDE controller.

You should install FastFileSystem into the RDB of your HDD (use the Add/Update button in the Partition Drive dialogue of HDToolbox).

Bye,
Thomas

in the HDtoolbox you will find the update file system buton. If you press it you will see what version of the file system you are using if you have something like 45.x you are OK if not the press buton UPDATE and select the filesystel from L:FastFileSystem and after save the information to HD.

i have problems here..

i have back-up my system on cd-rom,transfering the same infomation from cd to my 2.5 hd ( all ibm ) 4.8gb 25gb & 48bg all works ok..

when transfering to my hitichi 60gb 7200rpm it will just keep resetting my computer at boot-up,even with a new install of os3.9.

bb1 ok
bb2 no

the problem seems to be the hitachi drive or the a1200 ide interface..

NOTE: when the hitachi drive is installed the access light is always lit at all times..to stop this i install 4x ide interface no software drivers..

Sounds like the cable may be installed backwards.  That will cause the light to stay on...I'd make sure all the pin 1s are properly matched to pin 1 on the IDE cable.

@delshay

Try adding SKIPROMMODULES "scsi.device" to the SetPatch line; maybe the Hitachi drive doesn't like the update for scsi device that is in BoingBag2.

Made a small typing error :-( I hope this will fix your problem; the setpatch line should look like this:

Setpatch SKIPROMUPDATES "scsi.device" QUIET
