What is wrong with these people!
« on: January 19, 2005, 01:47:14 AM »
You all love these stories, here goes..

Does the person that shipped
THIS
freqent these boards?

I'm to tired to recap for the amiga community here, so I'll just cut and paste the e-mail I sent you.

Quote:
Hello,
The Amiga arrived today. It's condition wasn't quite like you described it. I have some serious problems. Let's recap:

1.) All four screws for the monitor casing were missing. This caused the shell to completely separate during shipping, and exposed the fly-back transformer, and who knows what other potentially deadly shock hazards. Thank God I did not blindly stick my hand into the box to remove the packaging.

2.) The standoffs for the RGB port on the back of the monitor are missing and the connector is very loose. Also, the composite input is very loose. I can't get the cable to stay.

3.) I think the monitor itself is bad anyway.. It produces only a flickering black and red picture. The brightness/contrast controls etc have no effect regardless of which input I use. I know how to use the selection switches for the appropriate input mode.

4.) The Amiga is missing several screws. Additionally, it's missing the internal mounting bracket for the floppy drive.

5.) I'm not sure what is going on, but the floppy's ribbon cable was connected incorrectly. It was ajar on the motherboard side, and plugged into the floppy backwards. It looks like it was hastily taken apart and carelessly re-assembled. Hopefully, my initial attempts to power on the machine did not damage anything perminately.

6.) The LED connector had two broken leads.

Considering the inflated shipping cost I was charged, the packaging was sub-standard. This probably would not have been a problem if everything was screwed together tightly, but I'm afraid that all the rattling might have damaged the monitor and did who knows what to my poor Amiga.

It does not look like you shipped the package with insurance? I specifically asked for that.

Please do what you can to help me out here. I have not left you any feedback yet because you have yet to leave me feedback and well, you know how that works.

This guy ripped off my Amiga pic!  Check my album out on here.

I hate to tell you this, but that picture in that auction is My Amiga 600HD with 1084S-D2 monitor, which is in my closet as I type this!

My opinion is his auction didn't bring the price he
thought it would, so he shipped you all his spare
parts instead of the actual primo system. He kept
the real system, you got the left overs.
He even used a second hand picture according to
TjLaser. I'd neg the feedback and damn the results IF
he doesn't refund most or part of your $$$$.
Minimum I would leave neutral with a poor comment.

Actually looking back, that guy bought from me a Amiga 1080 monitor that I auctioned off.  Did the monitor you got happen to be a A1080?  That monitor was in ok condition but it worked great when I sent it to him.  It also had all the screws in place.  :)

Here is the auction of the monitor I sold him:

Yes, 1080 indead.

Well, I carefully opened it.. and both the RGB port and the composite input are seperated from the PCB.

Also, I did not notice at first.. (can't see forest for trees) but the heat sheild is missing!

Just what did he do with all the screws?

The composite out worked through my TV card, however I fear the drive is dead.. it spins very slowly.

Where is the heat shield normally?  I have another 1080 and there is no shield in it.

The heat sheild on the Amiga.
Well the monitor does not have one either if it's supposed to.

LOL and the ONE screw that was in the Miggy.. well it's not original equipment. Looks like a American course thread wood screw out of some oak furniture.

This is just another example that proves:

ebay B-L-O-W-S !

Too many crooks and liars. It's too bad there is no real useful way to litigate against people like this.

Well, when I got my A2000, it had several problems, but nothing like this! I, too, got my monitor with the case opened, which I fixed. I also received my CD player thoroughly jammed, I had to take it apart to fix the caddy mechanism, and also there was a CD stuck inside. (Anybody need a Video Toaster 4.2 CD?). I also had one bad floppy drive, extensive battery damage on the motherboard (I washed it in the sink, and let it dry for a few days, after taking off the offending battery). The case was really yellow - I scrubbed it with one of those oxygen-based cleaners, and, there were more a few case screws missing. The first part of my rehab job, therefore, was to fix up 'this old computer' to bring it up to the level I THOUGHT I was buying. Moral: Ebay is a hit or miss, some times.

@GreggBz

First off, do you want to pursue the ripoff artist?  Some justice and/or satisfaction?

How did you pay?  Paypal or MO  (It could make a difference in the long run.)

Oh man...That SUCKS!

It could happen to anyone...so beware of images poping up over and over again!  In fact eBay does not allow people to copy/steal images from other auctions or other sources.

If I were you:  Contact the seller and see if he will make good on the problems.  If not or if there is no responce(even better), contact PayPal (I hope you used them) and start a dispute.  Paypal will allow the seller 2 weeks to respond and explain; if there is no response you get your money back no questions.  Good luck...we all feel for you!

I would recomend anyone that see's images from (at least) this site on ebay to post their auction in this forum with a little FYI.  It'll save a few of us the trouble...
