A1200 to be buried?

Hi,

As of today my A1200 suffers from an annoying habit: after doing some job, say using Wordworth OR Black's Editor OR Multiview, I have to restart it as the computer does no longer respond to mouse clicks! So I reset the computer, do some other job and when that is finished, I again have to reset the computer. At the end of the day (literally) I am constantly resetting the computer. Sometimes it boots, sometimes it boots not... Now it does not boot anymore at all. :-(

Suspect number 1 is memory. I'll try to sort it out one of these days.

Thought it well to let you all know. Goes to show that even an Amiga ain't immortal. :boohoo:

Hey Jettah,

When you reset your A1200, do you see anything other than a black screen?

Can you hold down both mousebuttons during reset to launch the early startup menu?

Have not yet tried that. Was to upset to think clearly. Will do so this weekend. Will reply. Off now to a party.

In that case, first thing to try is different memory, have it laying around? If not give me a buzz and I'll send you some to test....

Thanks for the offer. But, eh, ehm, I, eh, turned on the A1200 this afternoon and printed out quite a large selection of documents from WordWorth and guess what: it's performing like ever before! No hick-ups, no stalling, no hanging. Responsive as ever. Must have had its anual bad day, me thinks.

As an afterthought: upon finishing the application, I clicked it away. It looks like Workbench is 'detached' or something. Moving a window over it erases all the icons, but does not restore them when that window is moved again. Something rather strange is at hand here...

Sounds suspiciouly like a heat problem.
Any way you can get some more air flow
through the case and see if that helps?

Well . . . here is my 2 cents:

Do you have a spare Power Supply ?
I would advice you to try another one, because this seems pretty much a power problem to me.
Even so because it's intermitent.
A more detailed system specs would help us too, in giving you more precise advices.
