PCEngine emulator
« on: January 09, 2005, 05:26:06 PM »
Simple question - is there a PCEngine/Turbografx-16 emulator for the miggy?

Preferably a PPC version ;-)

I think I may have seen one before (possibly even used it) that looked the same as AmiMasterGear, but I'm not sure if that was another emulator.

I believe AmiPC-Engine is the only PCE/TG16 emulator for the Amiga, and it's far from a usable state. There was some talking about porting Magic Engine to OS4 some time ago but I don't know what happened with all that?

TGEmu has been ported to MorphOS at least, no idea if there's Amiga port.

It seems DarcNES can emulate a PCE, aswell as many other consoles. And it's PPC.

The author of AmiMasterGear did AmiPCEngine and also AmiMSX &
AmiGameBoy. They are all very good but the PCEngine one gave him
the most trouble it seems. After all, the 8-Bit PC-Engine had a
version of Streetfighter 2 the equivalent of the Genesis/Megadrive so
there's got to be complex custom chips in there.

What I'd like to see for OS4 is a good Genesis/Megadrive emulator,
that would be a lot more nostalgic for the majority of westerners.

Aha, DarcNES rings a bell (albeit a very faint one ;-) ), but it was probably the AmiMasterGear author one that I remember.  I'll check out that AmiPCEngine one tomorrow along with DarcNES and hopefully I can play Splatter House :-D

Thanks

--edit--

Oh good, DarcNES supports CGFX too :-D

Okay, I'm using DarcNES as AmiPCEngine looks crap on my telly (probably as good an emulator as AmiMasterGear though :-D)

The only thing that's wrong is the sound... there isn't any.  I can't see anything in the docs about there being a problem with the sound though :-?

Oh and some of the sprites are glitchy, but that may be because I'm running it on an 040/25-603e/175.  Skipping some frames makes it less noticable, but it's still there.

Anyways, a good emulator once I figured out that it only works in a screenmode of 320*xxx and not above.  I had to set up a new screenmode just for it, but it's worthwhile :-)
