Amiga 4000 down!

Well sadly one of my Amiga's crashed and burned today.  My A4000 030.  Green screen on bootup.  I think it's bad Chip Ram, but since this is a Rev D the 2MB Chip is soldered on.  This is the second time the Chip RAM went bad.  Amiga.fr did the work the first time, but their web site is down and not sure if they are still around?  Anyway anyone here in the USA that can do the repair work?

It might be easier to source a parts machine for motherboard replacement.  Especially if the board has been reworked already.  The Amiga.fr with shipping has got to be costly from the US.

Oh man thats harsh. I remember when my A4000/030 went up on me. The CV64/3D exploded - violently and took out the motherboard. I didn't have the money to fix it or seek a replacement at the time so I sold it as a parts machine. (And funded my first PC...blech!) I hope you get it working again or get another. I miss my 4000 a lot.

Yeah it was $170 for the repairs and shipping.  Not cheap.  Motherboards on eBay go for over $200 though...

Nice to see some locals on here!  :banana:

Good luck with getting the repair work done. Doing a battery change is one thing. Less pins...

I think the A4000 I just bought has some issues with the RTC. Under investigation...  The Time Prefs won't save. It will keep time while running and resets back to the OS install time and date from a few days ago after a reboot or restart.

The traces look ok with some slight damage from the corrosion. But I can't be certian of what the traces run to and from without a schematic or A4000 mb diagram...

If you were in the UK I would say send it to me and I'll X-ray it. How much is shipping to the UK (a mobo?)

I had a similar situation. The traces didn't look too bad, even with a 20x magnifier. But I measured the resistance of couple of the nearest traces to the battery. The nearest one was broken; a jump wire cured it.

Can't find my magnifying lamp, but i figure that might be the case. I put the original HD back in and it's time/date is stuck March 1st 1978.  My guess is the battery failed and the guy never attended to it, then the corrosion set in affecting the RTC circuit. He, the original owner, claimed it was "recently" taken off line at his production facility and "everything" worked fine.  Just got received the Warp'40 Engine today. Was hoping to have the case closed by tonight...
