Best Word Processor - AmigaWriter 2.2
Best Printers - Epson

Hello,

I've recently found a cheap Canon BJ200 which works like a charm on my A1200 (drivers on Aminet). Furthermore, the ink cartridges are still widely available (type BC02) because many Canon fax machines use them.

They are also incredibly cheap to run, you can pick up cartridges for this printer for around 3 UKP.

You might have problems printing to newer Epson-printers, as they often are not supported by the few Amiga-drivers.
Most of the new printers do not have ESC/P2-support.

For a specific model that is compatible with the Amiga, I would suggest the HP Deskjet 500 C.

These really are great, reliable printers. If you can find one second-hand, I'd buy it simply because they are cheap to run and really reliable, and compatible with Wordworth; another good Amiga based Word processor.
My friend has one running on his Windows 98 box, and I must say even though it is approaching it's 9th year of service there is still not a trace of any problems.

You might be skeptical about cartridge price though, since HP seem to have the reputation of good printers, dodgy drivers and expensive cartridges, but this printer has been on the market since the mid-90s IIRC and nowadays the cartridges are really cheap  :-D

If you do opt for this printer though, I would recommend using it with Wordworth 4 or later. Many Amiga dealers are still selling Wordworth 7 to my knowledge, which was the last version developed for the Amiga several years ago. It is available as a set of disks or a CD-ROM.

Actually, I'm going to make a test next week.

Through my job, I have access to a wide range of modern printers. I am going to make a list of Amiga-compatible printers.
Now, all I have to do is to get UAE onto my work computer. :-D

I have an Epson Stylus Color 660 connected to my A4000T.  I use TurboPrint v7.3x to send stuff to it.  It works great!

@Robert17

Final Writer is a really good Word Procesor for the Amiga..it looks the nicest compared to WORD for Windows........Also Amiga Writer is nice, but there is also WordWorth and PageStream (DTP) which is the best Desk Top Publisher for the Amiga.........

Get Final Writer 4.1 or higher
Amiga Writer

PageStream (the latest version)
and WordWorth 7

As for Printers.I have no idea..........every single printer I have ever tried on my Amiga failed........except for this STAR NX2420 dot matrix color printer which seems to work fine.

Mabe I should get TurboPrint 7.1 :-)

CD32 is actually the best Amiga ever made by Commodore!...

Best printers are either HP, Epson or Canon or Postscript compatible printers? Avoid Lexmark and GDI printers.

As a lot of the printers are now USB, the Amiga drivers are no longer any good. Get Turboprint 7.1 or later.

Best Word Pros are wordworth and Final Writer (both have stopped production ages ago), so look out for them. Try http://www.amigadeals.fsnet.co.uk/adutilities.htm for starters.

I work for years with my HP Deskjet 840C. (Now is plugged and printing in my PC). I was start working with that with my past A4000T, with no problems at all! The only thing is that I'm never find a correct driver for that printer then in Aminet, CU or AF magazines cd's, but the HP 870C driver that I was install works fine!
6 years ago I was have the same problem as yours! I was afraid if my new printer can't print characters (like Greeks as example) and the dealers won't help me...
I did the first step at myself and (thnx God) everything works!
Another solution, is buying an alternate HP product, the APOLLO 2000 (is cheap and economic). The drivers for HP work's fine in A!
Your choice!

The best word processor?
WordWorth 7.0 of course!!!  :-D
I was spend a long long time with that software! Much much more that I spend now with MS Office Word 2003!

I use an HP LaserJet 5L on my Amiga 1200 together with Final Writter and Turbo Print, a combination that works very well.

Also I heard that there should be no problem to use a PostScript printer in Final Writter or Page Stream, that means there is no need to look for any printer drivers.

Between Final Writter and Word Worth I think the Final Writter is the better one, in most cases. Really nice actually compared with MS Word.

But, consider buying an Laser Printer instead of an InkJet, as that will be a cheaper solution in the long run. Probably there should also be possible to find used LaserPrinters like the LaserJet 5L quite cheap, and tooners are still sold and the printer has a parallell connection.

Robert17,

I've been useing an HP895c for years now. Works with or without Turboprint. Turboprint output is better but, either way works fine.

I'm getting excellent results with the Epson Stylus C86 and Turboprint 7.60's C84 driver. Florian Zeiler, Turboprint's programmer, told me the C84 and C86 are the same, driver-wise.

The C86 has both printer cable and USB cable connectors.

The only problem I've had is with my 34meg memory. I can only print in color up to 720x1440. I can get up to 1440x1440 greyscale output.

The color 720x720 output blows away the 720x720 output I would get from my Canon BJC-620.

The printer doesn't take labels for printing, but that's not something I need.
