Linux+browsers

[amiga4001]

Anybody has some experience with Linux on the amiga?
I have a A4000D68060/233 and a Amiga68040/40 to try this on.
Most interesting is the browser part.
Is there a version with flash support etc for a linux version for amiga?
And what version is best to install?
Are there any recent install guides out there?
I have already traced it down to debian but what version for my 68040/40?
Anybody?

one year ago, i install on my a1200/060 + mediator/voodoo3
debian3.0 (if i remember correctly) (68k version of course)
But in past time, we do not have any video drivers for a1200 mediator (for a4k as i remember somebody was wrote driver for voodoo). So, i try it on aga. (framebuffer was supported too). Console browsers like a lynx and a links work perfectly of course (textmode) That about x-window - i setup it in 256 colors on aga, and run netscape it's work but, too slowly. (but work If anybody will write driver for a1200 mediator/voodoo3 - i think it will be fast. (maybe driver was writed for present time?)

cpu version does not matter for it, just downloading 68k version, and installing (install.txt or readme.txt can give you way of installation).

btw, it was work really stable for me. But as i know debian not supported amiga now, so maybe best way try to NetBSD ?

The only ones being able to write the drivers are Elbox. The last notes I could find about drivers being written for Linux are from 2002. If you want linux support, write to Elbox.

Debian supports Amiga.

However, Debian cannot support hardware that has no drivers, for example Mediator.

but of course, it is only words, i do not watch any public drivers for mediator/linux.

Let me show some more interest. I have just bought a brandnew Prometheus from Redrumloa and also some Voodoo3 cards, would that work with Debian ?? Are there drivers for the Prom ?? As I only have got a A3640 with 16 Mb I don´t expect it to be as fast as a Cyberstorm of course ... but Prometheus uses Open Source, so ...  :-?

Since you have a PPC on your A4000 why dont you try this:

A friend of mine had it going and it was pretty nice. I hope you have some kind of graphics card though because X11 on AGA is pretty damn slow.

But I still don't know what version to use.
Debian for 68K? what version is most modern?
LinuxAPUS for Powerpc?what version is most modern?
And is there or is there not graphic card support?
What browser and what version would work?
Will I be able to see flash/java etc...
Or will it all be so slow that I better not bother?

I have two amigas 4000.
One desktop with CyberstormPPC233/68060 with mediator+voodoo.
And the other one is a A4000T with a picasso2 and a IV-24 as flickerfixer.
I also have a retina Z-3 to put in here but system is now not in need of a monitorswitch and with the retina it would this is why I stick to picasso.(great card btw)
So would linux have drivers for these systems?

I dont know how serious you are about getting this going but
I think your best bet would be to put the picasso2 in your A4000d with the ppc. That would be the best conf for a AmigaPPC linux box.

The A4000T would give you alot more room for your mediator+voodoo.

That setup would give you a nice 68k machine and a very fast/stable PPC linux setup.

If only I could move the mediator bus board to the A4000T!
This is an original tower of amiga technologies so this will not fit.
But for now I was thinking of trying linux on the A4000T which has a cyberstorm (68040 on 40Mhz) and the picasso2 and 80 Mb on board.)
Surely this is powerful enough to try linux?
But what to install?
Debian version number?
Does it contain the picasso driver?

I think just about every 68k version of Linux has built in support for the picassoII so I wouldnt worry about that.

I would also consider the Amiga version of NetBSD

Its the latest unixOS i've seen released for 68k amiga's.
It would be perfect for a A4000/picassoII setup like yours.

slow, but it work. if we will have driver for mediator/voodoo3 for a1200/a4000 it must be fast and good. As i said before, i run on AGA in 256 colors Netscape and Mozilla on 060. And problem only with video speed.
