NMI Autovector?? ( Whdload )
« on: December 25, 2004, 10:48:15 PM »

I´m trying to install a couple of games to my A1200 with a Microbotics 1230XA accelerator with a CPU @50MHz and 64MB RAM..

When I try to run "The Stealth Affair" ( after installing it ) I get to the copy protection stuff, and I get to choose colors twice, and then I get the following error message:

EXCEPTION "NMI AUTOVECTOR" ($7C)
AT $BF74B0E (EXPMEM $4CB0E) OCCURED

 - QUIT - RESTART - MAKE COREDUMP -

I get an almost identical message when I try "Walker" ( memory addresses change somewhat ) but interestingly enough, "Shadow of the Beast" works like a charm..

I have tried the NOMMU command, but the results were the same...

At first I thought I had bought a bad stick of memory, so I downloaded three different memory test programs off aminet.. Two of them reported that all my memory was just fine, but the third one claimed that all my memory was bad, including CHIP.. So I basically ignored that program...

Does anyone have any suggestions/tips, and so on?

Try the NoAutoVec tooltype (or global option).
Time to move on.  Bye Amiga.org.  :(

Hum... :-)

But why does this occur in the first place? Is my accelerator broken, or something?

Yes.    I've never had to use it, but here's the snippet from the documentation.

Quote
NoAutoVec/S

If selected WHDLoad will not quit if an unexpected autovector interrupt or NMI occurs (vectors #25-31 / $64-$7c). This should be used on systems/hardware which will create at random such interrupts to prevent WHDLoad from exiting (or better remove the broken hardware!).

Time to move on.  Bye Amiga.org.  :(

No, I wouldn't say your accelerator is broken. I have to set NOAUTOVEC tooltype on almost every game and my accelerator is just fine.

I had a talk with Bert Jahn (maker of WHDload) about this and he said that some hardware causes this and just to set the NOAUTOVEC tooltype and not worry about it.
