Apache logs for Amiga OS on DSBuzz.com
« on: December 23, 2004, 10:18:21 PM »
Hi folks,
On my website, http://www.dsbuzz.com target="_blank">DSBuzz.com, I'm going through the painfull process of trying to modify PostNuke to show stats for Amiga OS and it's browsers and I found this:

"IBrowse/2.3 (AmigaOS V51)"

I know what this is: "IBrowse/2.3 (AmigaOS 3.9)"
and this: "IBrowse/2.3 (MorphOS 1.4)"
and this too: "Mozilla/6.0; (Spoofed by Amiga-AWeb/3.5.03 beta)"

but what the heck is AmigaOS V51?

Well another option would be someone with a manipulated User-Agent string. ;)

Well it was definitely someone from an Amiga forum.  I know this because of the HTTP-referrer string.  I just want to be able to identify which version of the Amiga OS has visited me, or I could just generalize and just say Amiga OS.  Anybody using Voyager want to visit the site and let me know when you do so I can get that string?

It angers me how 'expressive' Amiga browser coders are. Personally I
prefer to surf in privacy without webmasters (and hackers) knowing
what version of software I'm using.

A-Web should definately not be telling webmasters that it is spoofing
because some people may wish to exclude us Amiga owners for fear of
being hackers or people not using proper SSL etc.

We could be held responsible for CGI errors or server crashes.

Best if we don't show off what versions of obscure software we are
using, software so obscure even the Amiga community doesn't know what
it is (OS 51?).

I am also particularly angry at the way IBrowse is coded so that you
cannot hide your browser identity. There's a difference between being
Amiga-proud and blabbing to the world that you have an outdated and
highly incompatible browser on a minority computer.

Grrrr!

Hats off to Yahoo though who quickly responded to complaints about
Yahoo! Mail and helped Amiga owners with that bizarre Javascript
button dilemna.
