HyperCOM3z and Amiga Explorer
« on: December 23, 2004, 04:52:30 PM »
just received a HyperCOM3z zorroII fast ser/par IO card, in order to finally run Amiga Explorer at 115200 ...
BUT  although I used the tooltype: SERDEVICE=hyperCOM30Z.device , guess what: I get a "Serial Connection Cannot Be Opened"

any info guys?

Is it possible that I installed the card the wrong way? Is there any place to see the installed zorroII cards?
In showconfig I only see the 1260.... :-?

@keropi:

You should see the card in showconfig, though it would probably listed as unknown, only identifying itself with Prod=5001/2 or Prod=5001/3. You should also be able to see it in the "Expansion Board Diagnostic" part of the early startup menu (hold both mouse-buttons pressed right after booting).

As the HyperCOM3Z only is half length Zorro board, there is actually a possibility of inserting the card the wrong way. If it has its circuits on the same side of its circuit-board as a normal full length Zorro board it is inserted right. It could be bad for your computer if it is inserted the wrong way, so make sure it's right.

Btw, you can download the latest drivers for it here and find some info about it here.

Then to see if the serial communication is working, a good idea would be use a terminal program on both sides and see if it works.

It should have the 2 headers for the serial ports facing towards the back of the case.

Dunno what busboard you`re using, but according the Amiga Hardware Database, the 3/3z(doesn`t say which one :pissed:) is incompatible with Micronik towers.

Assuming the card is 2nd hand, have you tried cleaning the edge connector?

On schedule, and suing

The edges seem clean enough... I use the RBM towerhawk and their RBM zorroII busboard....

Hmmm, just realised, the erro that Amiga Explorer gives is:
CANNOT OPEN COMUNNICATION PORT
It seems as if the card is not working/recognised...
Is the zorroII bus table-free? Currently the card is installed on the to slot, which is marked Z1 ... I'll try and connect it to Z5 and see if that helps... :-(
