40 GB hdd on amiga1200
« on: December 20, 2004, 07:40:10 PM »
Hi to all.

Today i trying to setup in my a1200 40GB SAMSUNG HDD. And have some problem with it. So, i connect HDD and run system from WB3.0 installation floppy disks. Running HDDTOOLBOX, and it say to me: "Cheking scsi.device 0 unit 0...', wait some seconds (7-10) and can't found my new HDD. I try to setup jumper to master, slave,cs.  (i think <32GB and >32GB jamper set, not need for amiga?).So, in any case HDDTOOLBOX can't found my HDD.

My config: a1200, kikstart 3.0 and mediator. All test without any accelerators and from WB3.0 install disks.

Any help will be good for me. Thanks.

I think you could use the 3.1 rom.... I have a 20GB connected right now, and I have used a kickstart3.1 maschine and os3.9 ... The methods of connecting was either a 4x IDE interface supported directly from IDEfix and now a FastATA1200 ... Though the fastata acts up, it is speedy, 6.544 kb/sec for a 5400rpm disk... using the 4x IDE and a 030, I got ~2,9MB/sec

I think your configuration is too weak. You need at least AmigaOS 3.5 (which needs KickROM 3.1) to recognize > 4Go partitions.

I don't know if any free/shareware can avoid this trouble

Kickstart 3.1 and Workbench 3.1 are the main things you need.  You might also need the IDEfix software or similar free ones from Aminet (someone here should be able to recommend one).

Hi,

try my version of getting it work:
http://www.amiga-ide.istcool.de/ :-o (only German, sorry)

BTW: The 40GB-HD may need a softreset after turning on.
The spinup time could be too long for Kickstart 3.0.

If I were you I would use HDInstallationTools (Not the one that comes with OS 3.1 or 3.9, but it seems to be a German version that worked great for me.  But do a QUICK format on the Partitions and NOT a FULL format foe faster loading.

I have a 40 gig HD with 2 boot Partitions and 8 other Partitions on my SX32 pro.

CD32 is actually the best Amiga ever made by Commodore!...
