Amiga High Res Screen Fonts
« on: December 17, 2004, 11:20:17 PM »
I finally got a decent monitor and graphics card to run a 1024x768 Workbench.  Problem is the fonts I was using before are too small.  I don't feel like wading through the multitude of Amiga fonts to find one I like, nor do I have the time.  So I thought I'd ask people's opinions to narrow down my selection.

Anybody have some recommendations for some screen fonts that will look nice on a 1024x768x24 display?

Depends on how big your monitor is too I suppose.

The original Topaz font wouldn't look so bad on 1024x768 I would have
thought, since Xen fonts on a 14" monitor at 1024x768 would be quite
whispy.

The fonts in the MagicWB package from SASG are nice like XHelvetica 13
and don't look too arty/medieval/cartoony.

Remember to switch the Prefs/Fonts - 'Mode' toggle to TEXT and not
TEXT & FIELD so that you don't get a background for your fonts and
they appear transparently on the screen.

Use System/FixFonts occasionaly to update your FONTS/ drawer to let it
know added/deleted typefaces.

And don't try using intellifont or anything, I think Workbench
supports it with the 'bullet outlines' but this would be really slow.

Duh... I know HOW to do it.  I have been using an Amiga since 1985.  Questions is: what are some good fonts?

I was using XEN, XHelvetica, XCourier, etc before but I don't like how they look in HighRes... too thin for Title Bars, Icons, Buttons, etc, especially over textured backgrounds.  TitleShadow helps with window title bars but that's it.  Also, I've just spent a lot of time configuring MUI with some really nice background textures.  Looks great but thin fonts sometimes can be hard to read on a texture, especially on high resolution screens.  I need something that will stand out more but still looks nice.
