Crazy C64 mod idea?
« on: December 17, 2004, 12:42:18 AM »
I've had this crazy Commodore 64 mod idea for some time now. I don't have the meens to do it myself and probably never will but perhaps someone out there can make use of my idea and create a monster machine? I know about the C1 but that's not what I'm aiming for with this idea.

Well... What I was thinking was, with some of the new hardware available for the C64 why not try and have all the hardware inside the case instead of always having bits and peises hanging outside?

The idea was to put a sleek C64c into the original "fatter" C64 case, that way creating space underneath the motherboard for the extras to come. If clearance isn't enough perhaps an extra 1cm spacer could be manufactured to sit between the two halves (a "grill" type could be cool and perhaps needed for better airflow for the extra hardware). Then install an IDE64 and the Ethernet module for this card, an IDE HD and Slimline IDE CD (or DVD) and if there's room also a 1571 diskdrive in the space under the motherboard. Then move the leds from the IDE/Flash controller, Ethernet controller and diskdrive on top of the case. Of cause one might want to look for other types of addons but the principle would be the same... keep the stuff inside 1 box.

What ya think... doable? stupid? stfu this isn't Amiga related? Tell me! :-)
