Andy Bell announced today that he is HIV positive... While I'm no fan of his work, Andy's colleague (Vince Clarke) has been a major influence on my own work.

Oh no.  I'm saddened to read the news, to be honest I didn't know until I read it here first.

I was most certainly no fan of Erasure, but it's tragic to read that someone else has been diagnosed with this awful disease, which has claimed people like Kenny Everitt, Freddie Mercury and several other luminaries.

He has HIV, not Aids, so he's still got a full life's length in him unless it turns nasty.

Which I hope doesn't happen.

I think the longest person i heard of living with HIV before turning to Aids is around 10 years.

Regards,

It depends.  Some people can live reasonably comfortably with HIV for years and years with few effects but with others it can turn into full blown AIDS fairly quickly.

Modern drug treatments are prolonging the life expectancy of people with HIV, but like everything it will depend on the individual's body chemistry.

Oh right. What a shame someone like Andy Bell has been inflicted with this awful desease. He must feel truly awful inside (especially at Christmas). But like the man he is, he will carry on normally, and fight it. Fair play to him that is what i say. I have always respected his work in music (even if i didn't like all of them).
