Can you prevent my suicide?
« on: December 16, 2004, 12:51:36 PM »
Recieved Amiga through post last night (e-bay), plugged in and turned on - First time for 10 years....

Screen went green for a second (I seem to remember this is part of the usual boot process) but them everything went off!

No power light, funny 'eletrical' smell faintly emitting from PSU. I remember having a PSU go years ago so I know it's not unusual.

Q: Is there a way I can accurately determine the problem, ie. test the PSU in some way?

Q: If PSU has gone - where can I get a new one, or can they be improvised in this day and age?

I know fellow amigans can imagine the pain of this situation, any advise appreciated almost beyond words!

Ok. I would not recomend that you even try to repair the PSU. It's much easier to find an old PC-PSU and convert it.

There are a few descriptions on Aminet.

Good luck!

I have an ATX 300W PSU (plus ATX-AT adaptor). This is for Amiga 1200T Power Tower though. Not sure if this helps you or not. But PM anyway, if you are interested.

I take that you didn't crack the case off and dust out the insides, check for loose cards or wires?  The first thing is to inspect it inside and out befor powering it up. Sorry to here of your dismay....

@ Plus4

Hi, I think you have problems,

The normal boot process is Dark Grey, Light Grey....Boot

If you get any other color, you have a problem.

Red:

Blue:

Yellow:

Green:

All mean PROBLEMS, I think Green is for Chip memory problems.

IIRC, each system the amiga checks it changes couour - so the colour it locks up on tells you what area has the problem.  Other than that I can help no more.

A green boot screen basicly means "chip ram error".. If your amiga is a 3000/4000 you might check if the chip ram simm fits in the socket correctly.
