I think Bernie is as much in favour of the British Grand Prix as anyone else. However, he likes business to be conducted on a fair but short timescale. He is trying to prompt some more Government backing for the event. He is inundated with race requests from countries that have had new, subsidised circuits constructed and is finding it increasingly difficult to justify having the British race on the calender and, ultimately, I think he has been fairly generous. It is time that the British Government realised the importance of the Grand Prix to the country and acted accordingly to assure its future. Many people forget that, disregarding the World Cup and the Olympics, it is the most watched sport in the world and, as such, provides the exposure that most countries would be very grateful for. However, it is the benefits to the economy which the Government seem most keen to ignore. I am sure, however, that they would mourn the departure of any of the current residential teams for more favourable accommodation.
